Quad Bikes

Where we live we get a lot of Quad Bikes going up the road to the mountain.
What I have noticed is that none of them has a number plates on them.
The question I ask is, does a quad bike need to be registered? or is it classed as an agricultural vehicle and is exempt.
Oh, and why are they so loud is it stand procedure to have a faulty exhaust?

Am wondering if you live on same road as me. If you do, then they go as far as the end of the tarmac, then hit the fire breaks and you can hear them right across as far as other side of Alsancak and back again to end of by-pass. There are also bikers who do the same thing (unregistered) . Quad bikes have started to appear outside houses, never been there before. Yes, a dodgy exhaust is mandatory!!

My neighbour has a quad bike with a small cc engine. The police told him it does not need to be registered and can be used on some of the back lanes up the mountain to the Kozan restaurant and the “tank” , as well as on non-roads.
Larger cc engines need registration and number plates.

I don't believe this... as 50cc mopeds have registration and insurance... the thing is, a quad bike is classed as a tractor so can be used on land and tracks etc. but if used on public roads it should be registered and insured. That won't stop people making up their own rules...
They probably bore holes in the exhaust to impress the girls!

I feel for anyone who has to put up with this menace on society, especially in your otherwise no-doubt peaceful locations. There is a garage at the back of where i work in Gravesend, Kent, which specialises in customising motorbike and particularly quad bike engines and exhaust systems. I've lost count of the amount of times i have complained to the garage, the council and the police about the endless revving of the engines day in, day out. These mod's are mainly for inconsiderate morons, whos sole purpose it is when riding these things round our streets, especially on Sunday afternoons and at night, to make as much unnecessary noise as possible to impose on the quality of life of as many people as possible. I realise this aggressive form of ownership does not apply to everybody who owns one and there are probably more considerate owners in Cyprus using a standard set up for the purpose intended, but i honestly have yet to come across a quad bike (in Kent at least) that hasn't been modified to within an inch of it's life, being ridden properly by an owner who, a) wears a bash-hat and appropriate clothing, b) doesn't rev the throttle continuously while stationary at traffic lights and junctions, c) doesn't rev the throttle to the max in short sharp bursts between 1st and 2nd gears, d) only uses 1st and 2nd gears also to make as much noise as possible.

You're correct about "peaceful environment" its Sunday morning and you could hear a sparrow fart, but I can bet your sweet life, this afternoon the morons will be up and about and you can hear them coming 10 mins before they arrive and the same after they have gone.

Very few quad bike owners wear helmets here... as they are classed as tractors I assume it's not a legal requirement. But given the speeds and inherent instability only a moron would go without... unfortunately there is no law against being a moron anywhere in the world.

Too true Groucho. I for one would love to ride a motorbike without a helmet and feel the wind on my shaved head along the cost road and as far as i could go along the "pan-Handle", but i wouldn't want to end up an "organ-donor". Look what happened to Rik Mayall on his quad bike, which i know was not what killed him, but his injuries were needlessly horrendous through not wearing a helmet.

Probably a silly question, but are the feds not around to ask if they have a permit to leave their houses, though that's only a short term solution. Perhaps there's a market there for Stingers?

I think you are right Sophie, since the restrictions, we have one guy who rides up the road/path by us - no helmet or other protection, and his young son holding onto the steering - so much for self isolation.

You try and stop them and ask the question, I wouldn't dare, they don't appear to have brakes only clutch on full throttle. I keep hoping one or more will miss a corner and drive straight into the ravine but no such luck. I don't usually wish anyone ill will, but with these morons I make an exception!
