Given the current ban on travel between districts, being in Esentepe anyone know what are the borders of the district ?

Not great if you live in Bahceli, we hav'nt even got a shop, as Tempo comes under Esentepe and they have very little to offer!

Just come across a map that shows just 5 districts in the north, Girne stretches from Bahceli all the way to west coast, others are Iskele, Gazimagusa, Lefkosa and Guzelyurt.

I understand that a district is far larger than a municipality. Certain villages such as ours, Karsiyaka, are under special quarantine, which isn't the same as travel between districts. Girne, Lapa and Lefkosa are districts as I suspect are Guzelyurt, Famagusta and the Karpaz. It's these districts you are not to cross between. However as we all should be staying very close to home except for emergencies I don't see why this is an issue.

Hi war horse.
We live in Bahceli so know exactly what you mean about Tempo. Called in there yesterday and couldn't even get basics so came home and applied for a travel permit via the Government website. Asked for permission to travel to Catalkoy this morning, for food shopping and the approval came back within about 10 mins. All very simple.
We travelled over to Catalkoy, were stopped at the Police check point just as you are coming into Catalkoy, showed them the email and travel permit and were waved on or way with a smile.

There we go, a sensible solution...
Can I just give a shout out to the veg stall at the Esentepe village junction - good produce at keen prices... cheaper than Supreme.

Good solution but I just wonder if the district and municipality lines have kind of merged? If there is/was a police check point just as you are coming into Catalkoy - which district are they checking for as it is a long way from the next district boundary?

The permission to travel doc is specific to and from a place and is not a ticket to go cruising

Apologies but this additional info might get posted twice.
I should add that we were stopped at the same Police check point on our way home. We were able to prove that we had complied with the terms of out permit by showing the supermarket till receipt, not to mention the shopping in the boot of the car.
Waddo, I honestly can't answer that for you. This was the one and only Police check point we passed through but doesn't mean there wouldn't have been another if we had travelled further, say to Karakum or into Girne. But hopefully the odd Police check point will be enough to deter/pick up those planning to apply for a permit and abuse it by going to visit whoever, wherever.

There is a check point end of the road past the Acapulco near the speed camera main road into Girne . I went the other day as my phone battery went and had a new one fitted in the Turcell shop buy the life hotel they let me through and on way back asked were i was going i said Esenpepe no problem so if you have a good reason then they are letting you through

Both filled out the form and both refused! Don't know why! Did you have to register or anything first? I'm confused

Hi helendj.
No you don't need to register and I have no idea why you have been refused. I also don't know how applications are processed but it could be there is a quota for the day and I just got lucky. Sorry you were refused but it might be worth trying again tomorrow morning.

Thank you, will try tomorrow, perhaps there is a limit or perhaps the restriction has stopped. Oh well will find out tomorrow.

I apply for permission on Sundays to drop off weekly supplies to Alagadi , last week due to a friend being taken poorly and now been airlifted to the uk I increased the 2 hours I required to 4 hours and it was refused after 30 mins. I then reapplied and asked for 3 hours which was accepted.
I also have been applied to go to Bellapais on a Wednesday to visit the Muhtar's office and with this permission the times were changed to the office hours therefore I do think the time is also important too, the less time I ask for the quicker the confirmation comes back.
Good luck next time

Thank you, we did ask for two hours thinking of shopping and going to the chemist, which we think is reasonable. I did think though that this particular restriction was only supposed to be for five days, but now I’m not so sure.
I’ll try again in the morning.
I do hope your friend gets the best treatment, this is such a terrible time for everyone

Today both ways we were stopped going to Alagadi and then back home to Catalkoy, even though we both had permissions , id at the ready, all the policeman looked at was the weekly shopping and listened to us. As you can go to the shops and chemist unless the places you want to go mean you are passing lots on the way I personally would go out.
Yes friend feels happier in his own bed!, it was the insurance company who insisted they air lifted them. Bet they wish they hadn't after the border, travel from their home in the north to the ambulance to the uk, opening up airports etc

the continuing saga of the shopping permissions! ok so today they accepted us - both got permissions - but the date was wrong, even though I'd put the right one in, so did again, then the date was ok but the time was wrong, ok so went to do them again, in the middle of the page was a statement saying that we already had permissions for the date and times I'd put in. So now I give up - we're going to go shopping, hope for the best, and see what happens, at this rate, we'll have permission for every day this week at varying times - well really, did I expect it to work properly, lol

After all that kerfuffle we got to the checkpoint, asked where we were going, said shopping, and waved on; coming back just said back from shopping waved on. So all that worrying about getting the proper permission was all a waste of time. oh well at least we've got enough shopping not to go out for a good while!

Hi helendj.
Do you mind if I ask where you are based?
The way I understand it is, you are now only supposed to use your most local supermarket therefore, staying as close as possible to the area you live in. We applied for the permit to go shopping because we wanted to go from Bahceli to Catalkoy so way out of our area. Crazy times eh....

We're actually technically under Esentepe, so theoretically we should be shopping in Sencag or the useless Tempo. neither of them would have been adequate for our needs which is why we wanted to go to Erdener/Supreme. As I said my husband just told them we were going food shopping and there was no problem at all. if you were going from Bacheli though I probably would get a permission form done, although to be honest they didn't ask to look at anything, I had my passport etc but nothing was asked for.

Thanks helendj. To be on the safe side, we'll will continue applying for permission. It would be just our luck to go without it one day and get turned back, lol!

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

In Alsancak I'm glad to say we have absolutely no problems in that regard at all, However, to start with I used to make sure I had a shopping list with me just in case. A good way to test my Turkish as well!!
