The increase is government tax from 1st April.
The impact of the exchange rate is yet to be added, probably on new stock.

The government taxes on all alcohol has gone up by 30%... as I understand.
£11.46 for 5 litres of a very acceptable Chilean wine is quite frankly a steal. Not over the odds, imo
It's the same price in Erdener...

Just shows how confusing things are here. Groucho thinks ALL ALCHOL went up 30%, whereas I understood ALL SPIRITS had gone up 30% and of course stores will say Groucho is right and I'm wrong. Not sure whether the truth will out.

I would accept that there is a new tax on new stocks,I was referring to the same stock as a few days ago.

Gripon, I think you are going to have to face the fact that you have made an error in assuming that the tax is on imports not on sales, it does not matter when the goods came - in the new rate of tax must be charged as of 1st April.

The above post detailed all the increases, see the attachments and translate. I seem to remember that the tax was to raise funds to help offset the hit that coronavirus would have but I may be wrong.

People are dying all over the World and drastic measures are being taken to stop more of us from dying. Here that means the Government have increased the tax on alcohol to assist them to pay a little to those who can't afford to pay for alcohol in the first place. Many here were paid (if paid at all) a pittance that most back in the UK wouldn't get out of bed for. Now the majority of them have no jobs, no money and maybe no job to go back to on top of the health implications.
Putting all that into perspective I think whinging about the price of your favourite tipple is a touch insensitive. This isn't the UK and the rules are different. If the tax goes up it goes up on all stock not just new stock. If the tl exchange rate is suffering prices will change to reflect that.
Some people really do need to think about others a bit more instead of their poor done to selves!

OK, Gripon made a mistake - he thought profiteering was in play, his error but let's not fall into the trap of rounding on him with the assumption that he is insensitive as to the Covid-19 disaster... Virtue signalling should be left to celebs who think we value their 'sacrifices'.
We should be free to air opinion as long as it's not with malice . We don't need the thought police do we?

I agree Grouch about opinions. Which is why I expressed mine. Other opinions are available.

It's the without malice bit that concerns me...

I never bear any malice to anyone. Life is too short. Perception is unique to every individual so what you think I or others mean may be entirely different to what is intended. That is one of the problems with the internet as opposed to face to face discussion. If you feel I bear malice to anyone I can only apologise for your misconception as it is certainly not intended that way.
There is enough strife about at the moment without seeking it on here. So maybe we can move on now.
