Tourism and Environment Minister Ünal Üstel announced that they plan to open the tourism sector in a controlled manner in the future, which is adversely affected by the coronavirus outbreak, and they are working on an action plan in this regard. From plane to hotel, stay in hotel - hotel entrances to be guarded, from hotel back to plane and off home!

I can't see anyone objecting to that, can you?

I'm not quite sure how this will benefit the wider economy, with the tourists and their wallets being trapped in the hotels, but hey, that's just a detail, right?

What could possibly go wrong?

Can you imagine being in a holiday hotel where they serve you at the end of a two metre pole?

If you want to travel or work in tourism you will have to accept the risk or stay home.

That's a thought - the casinos are reputedly one of the highest tax contributors in TRNC - not that they otherwise benefit the local economy directly except that employees live away from the casinos and pay rent - It would be nice to see some method of opening up the sector which actually stimulates local business.

I can not see that there will be many visitors with these restrictions! The idea of arriving in the country is to explore and SHOP!!!!!

Many casino users come in spend time at the hotel and fly out. Many of the larger hotels (Merit etc) depend on this and employ a lot of people, many not TCs so getting nothing at the moment. Those people back in employment help some of the locals business. Just need to get some money going round in the economy. At the moment there seems to be a stagnation of decision, a hospital being built and a Mayor in Girne imposing masks on all when he is photographed frequently wearing his round his chin. All a bit bonkers.

And what about those tourists that have already booked into villas?

We are booked to fly in and out of Larnaca in July and stay in our friends’ villa in Ozankoy, as we have done for many years. Can’t see any possibility of it happening this year unfortunately.

Suspect there are quite a number in the same boat, booked to come over during the summer period. Some of my family have flights with TA for July, but can't see that happening.

No, it’s friends if ours who own a villa and only let friends and family use it. We have been to it every year since 2013 and we will miss it, and TRNC generally, badly. However, it is what it is.
