According to todays Daily Mirror........

No 1 is Northern Cyprus !!!!!

Are we being recognised, at long last.

Perhaps someone can post a link, I don't have the paper. Info came via my mum in the UK.

I have had the misfortune to meet folk that use the 'Rough Guide ' as a travel bible.

Be prepared next year for an influx of beardy ageing hippy types, and gap year students with rucksacks permanently welded to their backs, both trying desperately to 'do' Northern Cyprus for TL 20 per day.

Not quite the type of tourists that the place needs to fill the empty coffers.

Tin helmet at the ready.

And of course, worst of all- it will bring an Influx of Daily Mirror readers!
That alone will bring the average I.Q of the place down by about 20 points-and it's already fairly low.

Two tins hats on now as a precaution.

I suspect that the enthusiasm of most of these potential tourists will come to an abrupt halt when they discover the price of the airfares in comparison with other destinations unless they can find budget all in deals !

Oh Lawdy, Lawdy philoz will we get more of the Brits on tour? You know - he has no shirt, shorts that leave nothing to the imagination and an abdominal creation that pays a huge homage to Carling Black Label. As for her - chest protruberences that are held in place by a piece of string hanging around the belly area, which in turn has had the same influence of said lager. Then a pair of shorts that must be causing pain they are so tight! Then they wonder why the local population is rolling around the centre of Girne laughing at them.

DD do not worry about price they will be travelling easyJet and then getting ripped off by the so called taxi services.

Obviously they have the points of the compass in Mirror image.

Though I've seen a few expats who match cih 's wonderful description.

Can I borrow a tin hat, Philoz?

Am taking umbrage, Philoz - (not really) I used the Rough Guide in China for years, and Thailand, and I assure you I do not drink Carling Black Label or wear short shorts!! AND I wasnt a student either, I taught them. But I agree, the air fares alone should put the students, tree huggers and generally tightfisted travellers off a bit. (any more tin hats?)
Could someone persuade the Times, Telegraph or Observer to put us in its Top Ten?????? That would perhaps upgrade the typical tourist a bit!?

'it will bring an Influx of Daily Mirror readers' Don't worry, the two are mutually exclusive!
The link with a bit more info from the original source....

CIH as it's the rough guide I suppose we have to expect the 'rough' with the smooth...

Personally i dont think it will have much effect, not when they see the cost of getting over, other med places are far cheaper. Any exposure is good exposure for North Cyprus however. At least it is in the news for the right reasons.
