Is there anywhere in TRNC that sells uds? Mine is on its last legs and since I have been here I haven't found or seen a shop that sells them.

Thank you. I have been looking out for years. Apparently I can buy in the South. Been to a couple of big music shops in Lefkosa, they had everything but an Ud. Very odd, and they couldn't or wouldn't tell me where I could find one. May have to end up going to buy in Turkey or South side. But... would be good if I could buy here in TRNC.

The Music shop that used to be next to the pharmacy in the row of shops where Stormax is in Karaoglanoglu used to have them. Unfortunately they closed sometime ago and I cant recall the name of the company.

How really odd that they don't have them here. One of my friends loves to play and sing when there's a bit of company around. I do suspect that he has had his for years and years though, and possibly bought in Turkey.
Pity it wasn't an UPS you were looking for, could tell you exactly where to get one.

An alternative spelling of Oud perhaps? If it's on its last legs, perhaps you need a luthier to bring it back to life... Musical instruments generally require overhaul periodically but ought to be repairable... There's many a good tune played on an old fiddle.

That would do me too, but, at a guess, the chances of finding a luthier here will be pretty much impossible. Tried to repair it myself but only lasted a few months.

Tell me more about the problems with it.... tuning pegs, bridge? Obviously an oud/ud is fretless so it's not fret related...

Groucho, if you look at the image, the front left panel as become detached. It is extremely difficult to line up and glue.

Woodworkers often use several tourniquets when gluing eccentric shapes... pieces of strong cord, string, cloth strips or webbing made into hoops and tightened with a stick to address the two surfaces to glue using PVA wood glue.
Once tightened the sticks need to be strapped/tied in position to stop them from turning back and loosening off before the joint is solid... you can do dry-runs without glue to perfect positioning and technique. It's best done by two people.... be gentle and use soft cloth inside the tourniquets as it passes over edges to protect the finish.
You need to wipe off the excess glue with a damp cloth and cling film or sellotape can be used to wrap the tourniquets as they pass over the glued areas to prevent the hoop material gluing to the repair....

Looking at it closely, definitely time for a new one. Front panel has worped and starting to come apart in many places.
Watched a few videos on youtube, amazing craftsmanship.
