Diving Buddy

I have recently arrived from the UK and plan to take up diving again (just could do with losing some extra pounds first!). I am an Advanced Open Water Padi Diver, and would be really interested in hearing from people living around Kyrenia who also enjoy the sport. I have my own gear, bar tanks and weights.
Hopefully I can meet some new friends and have some fun

The original poster, if he is out west, would be made welcome should he contact either Asim or Osman at Amphora Diving http://www.amphoradiving.com/ now at Kervansaray Beach, or Emre or Erkan at Cyprus Dive Shack http://cyprusdiveshack.com/ at Escape Beach.

He will be buddied up in no time.

Thank you all, but I am actually a very middle aged "she"!!! Need to lose a bit of weight to get back in to my wetsuit, but working hard at it and would love to start diving again soon.

I should have said he/she. Sorry about that.

When I was a member of BSAC in the UK I went for a dive medical with a club doctor and I apologised for needing to lose some weight. He (and it was a he) replied "don't worry, a lot of fat bast-ards dive." I wasn't expecting that.

The two establishments, both west of Girne, Amphora and Dive Shack - I know the staff well at both and have dived many times with all concerned at each establishment. You will be made to feel at home and most welcome at either establishment. There will be no sniffy, "looking down at you" because you no longer have the body of a youth.

You do not indicate where you are based. I cannot comment on any dive establishments east of Girne, nor out Boğaz way or up at the Karpaz.

I am in Bellapais, but I go down to Golden Bay to sunbathe with a much slimmer and younger girlfriend and her kids and I have seen divers there. Bit embarassed to ask as look like a beached whale! I'll be ok underwater though, as weightless. Just will need a bit of help getting back on the boat and being so buoyant need a load of weights that won't help matters, hence I really would like to get a bit trimmer save myself looking like a right plonker! My son who is 10 would like to learn too. Both he and my daughter (9 this week) did a trial dive at the dive show in Birmingham last October and loved it, so two more budding divers in the making, and I would love them to learn too.

I do not know where you are based but my other half dives with Underwater Explorers, based at Manolya Hotel in Lapta. It is a very friendly outfit and there is always coffee and a chat after each dive. They also organise evenings out. Prices are very reasonable. We have both made several friends here through this club. I am a non diver but I sometimes sit by the pool whilst he is out .One thing we appreciate is that here is no hanging around. The dives go out on time, usually 10a.m and 2p.m.

One of my sons who has dived in many countries goes to the diving school at the Sempati Hotel and recommends it to anyone. He goes every time he is over, as many times as he can fit in.

I believe that you have to dive with a dive school in N Cyprus. You cannot just buddy up and dive where-ever you like.

I, like an earlier responedent, dive with Underwater Explorers and can highly recommend them.
