Water Meter Modifications

I had two gentlemen from the 'Water Department' at my gate last week saying that they were there to modify the water meter.

Our meter was inside the gate, so the dog wasn't impressed when they came through. I had to take him inside.
When I returned they had dismantled the meter and removed the electrical mechanism completely. This wincluded
the LCD screen, shut off mechanism and processor, just leaving the mechanical counters. I was given a signed and stamped
receipt for the 14 tons I had in credit and they said I had to go to the 'office' when I had used that up.

The receipt explained that the meter had to be 'modified' due to 'mulfunctions'. Has anyone else a clearer
explanation as to why the work was needed? Nothing to do with pending water shortages? Are we going back to
the Belediye coming to read the meter and leaving a bill?

Thanks for the heads up on this one.......just checked my meter, and yep.......all the techno bits removed.........but they did not leave any receipts or info.......we are in karsiyaka, jessics bar area.......checked two neighbours gardens, and they have been stripped out as well......and not left any paperwork......they don’t live here, holiday homes.........this action was mentioned at the park quiz last night, by Tony the quiz master......possibly due to the fact, that the water supply from the mainland is still not fixed.......thus making our water reserves very low........looks like going back to the good old days of a bloke doing the rounds, and giving out invoices.......and taking them up to the beli for payment.......who knows........a printed flyer would have been handy.....but hey ho........
I’m sure all will be revealed as and when......
Hope this helps......any info would be appreciated...

Your card won't be any good until they replace the workings in the meter. I came back from golf today to find a credit note for the water we've paid for and the same notice you appear to have had. I thought the current system was excellent and wasn't aware of any malfunctioning, so there is something fishy going on. Good news is that the water is still on and we are well in credit, so interesting to see what they are up to.

Hello again.........have been up to k.yaka beli, unfortunately AHMET was not working today, but another guy was on the desk.......had to write my telephone number on the receipt that was left on my car, he took my card, put the receipt together with my card, paper clipped together.......and he advised me, that Lapta HQ water dept. Would be in touch...........so will be waiting with baited breath..........seem to agree with frontal man, all seems a bit odd.......the card system worked a treat for us......it may be due to the lack of water held in stock now..........we shall see.......
Hope this helps...
I
BILLYBONDZ.............by the way frontal, how was Ken’s P.M.L............May drag myself over to him for my fix......

Luvvly jubbly, exactly the same as it always was. You won't be disappointed. Get a couple of bottles of water to take away - you might need them.

Hey guys, there are some of us who HAVE NEVER LEFT THE OLD SYSTEM. We have the same meter for nearly 16 years and the system works just fine, so don't knock it!

The card system gives credit which is shown in metric tonnes on the LCD. When the parts are removed there
isn't any record of the credit. So if you can't find the paperwork, you don't have any record of what is left of your purchase. Problem for
the 'Swallows'

Without the credit system, you can't threaten the Belediye with legal action if the water is cut off. Not that you could realistically anyway!

They told us there were too many problems with the meters so will be reverting to the old post-paid system.

The note we got says that they are going to replace the faulty meters (or faulty parts) and at that point you are to take the card in to the belediye to have your credit reinstated. As far as I can make out in my limited Turkish, I think the note also states that we were getting some water for free due to the malfunctioning meters. If it was working in the belediye's favour I'm sure they would be in no rush to replace them. As far as joandjelly's post, I wonder why they are saying that they are going to replace the faulty workings if they are not. It seems pointless to me.

My inners got taken out a few weeks ago due to the card not registering the water that I had just paid. Have been to the Water department several times and they have been very nice and explained that we will be going back to the old system as there were so many meters that were going wrong and they just couldnt cope. I checked that my water that I had paid for was registered and it was. So they said for Karsiyaka the new system should be up and running beginning of August - ie they come and read the meter - back to the way it used to be!!!! Oh well this is Cyprus 00)))

Maybe the unemployment figures were starting to rise, they need people to uninstall and reinstall - simples!

Lapta belidere installed thousands of meters without charge. Unfortunately they didn't purchase spares and the meters are coming to the end of their working life. An expensive mistake, but they did try.
I bet that the people who where charged extortionate prices out East way are wondering who is going to pay when their meters give up the ghost.

As I recall, didnt Lapta Beli charge for a certain amount of tons per month, whether used or not, before the meters were installed?

I believe you had to pay for 10 tonnes whether you used them or not!

Went to Lapta Beli today. Water card read 41.8 tons. Checked the re-figured meter, now reads: 304.977 ? Apparently, meter will be read monthly and you will be billed for usage. No mention of any minimum usage charge!!

We never pay for more than we use. 4 tonnes, then we paid for 4 tonnes - Alsancak. However by the time we've had "Turkish water added", KDV added, local tax, plus one other tax, which I can't remember, it looks and feels a lot more than 4 tonnes.

I think that in alsancak you pay for the meter, plus street cleaning/binmen then water used.

You're absolutely correct and was going to edit my message but got called away. We still only pay for the water we actually use regardless of the bill the bloke sticks in the letter box.

I remember something about the 10 tonnes as a minimum monthly charge. Of course it was a lot less than the 6 TL per tonne we are paying now.
It was a clever money earner from houses which were mostly vacant throughout the year.
