Hi all, if we enter North Cyprus from the UK with a negative PCR test, are we able to self quarantine at our house or do we still need to check into one of the official government quarantine hotels? If we can quarantine at home, what is the procedure to get from the airport to our house?

According to Turkish airlines Website if you are travelling from uk (cat c) you can isolate in your home until PCR test results are obtained and reported to you following test taken at ercan.

Does anyone know the names of the government quarantine hotels?

Definitely Malpas & Olivia Palms, there will be others.

My understanding is that you don't get a choice, you're told where you're going and that's it... (a possible exception may be 'if you have pots of money' )

Someone with first-hand experience may have more information.

There's one in Gönyeli too, called Golden Residence I think.

We have been hoping to travel out from Scotland on 5th September for a month's visit, and have been looking to try and arrange a Pcr test which provides a certificate, however we can't find anywhere which can guarantee the results quick enough, and within the time period of 72 hours which seems to be required to be accepted upon our arrival. So it looks like it will be about 18 months between visits if we are able to get out in March. So tour of England looks on the cards, don't know if we will be able stand the heat. While typing this, work called, and we have changed holiday dates to start from 19th, Maybe the great unwashed will be accepted back by then without certification, and quarantine.

It says between 72 & 120 hours, where I read. Gives a bit more leeway. But fingers crossed we wont need the test by then

Tatar told reporters that stricter arrangements will be made to ensure that arriving passengers will remain in isolation at their hotels or their place of residence until their second PCR test carried out upon arrival comes back.

Not so at the moment. You will have to be in quarantine in a hotel chosen for you at your own cost. There is still talk of the UK being re-classified into Cat B on August the 1st but until that happens you need to check carefully what is required.

Still confusing and risky.

Not knowing the exact requirements, not knowing what test paperwork will or will not be accepted, cost of PCR test, the ability to get a test done in the timeframe required, cost of quarantine and then add the extra risk of someone in immigration misinterpreting the rules and being deported. Throw in that they say social distancing measures on board the aircraft will be implemented only to find it doesn’t happen.... or if it does happen on U.K. to Turkey flight it then doesn’t happen on the Turkey to Ercan flight. Add to this there are many examples of flights being changed or cancelled at the last minute, flight timings are meaningless and finally taking hours from arrival in Turkey then outbound to Ercan. Then waiting hours at Ercan to be processed.

Until it is clear exactly what the requirement is, we will hold off travelling.

The other point to consider is if there is a second lockdown it may not give you enough time to travel to where you need to be for a couple of months

We had planned to go back to the UK in October but the problem there is that if there is a sudden wave of CV19 we could be stuck there for as long as it takes !! Making any of sort of travel plans is a bit of a nightmare just now !!

You're all quite right - unless there is an absolutely pressing need to travel, it's probably best to stay where you are, where you can control your environment to some extent and at least be assured of your usual standard of living, so to speak.

Apart from the possible inconvenience of being stuck somewhere where you don't want to be, there is the added danger of contagion in airports and on 'planes...

Don't do it unless you really, really need to!

I was under the impression that tests via the NHS were only for key workers and those experiencing symptoms of Covid 19 or feeling unwell. I am not sure you can just book a test, rock up and have one done just because you want a test or are travelling.

Sadly, I have little doubt that there will be those who claim to be experiencing symptoms of Covid 19, but NOT mentioning that they intend to travel...

The testing rules seem to be a trifle bizarre to me - surely the more tests done, the better...

...or am I missing something?

Keith, nutshell, the UK Government can not afford to test everyone living in UK. It’s the ability of the Healthcare system to carry out the tests. So only those who say they have symptoms can be tested along with certain others sectors, Healthworkers, Care Homes, people in hospitals etc.

There's cost and there's also time. It would take a lot of time to test everyone in the UK. And as it seems you can catch the virus again , to what purpose? It will be like painting the Forth Bridge.

We should have a bit more data to make some better informed decisions.

Surely it would be your duty to find out if you were carrying the virus if you intended to come back to the TRNC. I'm sorry but I would want to know why I had suddenly lost my sense of smell and taste, if you get my drift.

We we’re not allowed to board our flight to England until we showed the completed form. Fortunately, we had already completed it but some people were having to complete it there and then. When we landed in England, the immigration officer asked to see it and quizzed us upon where we were doing our quarantine.

Apparently the north are not accepting nhs tests so private it is.

Fingers still crossed for upgrade to B by Wednesday otherwise I will bank transfer the quarantine money.

That was what I was going to query, the guidelines are you complete the form 48 hours beforehand and you can either print a copy off or copy to your phone. If people were leaving the forms on their seats, I was wondering if those people had already copied to their phone or printed, hence why they left them on the seats.
Didn’t think you could get through control unless you had proof. You have confirmed it.

As far as whether people are taking the virus and quarantine serious in general, that’s another story.

I have just returned from a short break in the Peak District. Over there they were taking it very serious. Every cafe I went into I had to provide my name and number for track and trace. Each cafe / shop I entered I had to sterilise my hands. When we were out walking, people were keeping their distance.

Like in all walks of life, there will be some people who are taking the virus serious and those who are not. It’s just the way of the world. To say people are taking things lax in the UK is bit of a generalised statement in my opinion.

Can only go by the photos and videos on the relevant news programmes. Some seaside holiday destinations and inner cities looked horrendous. Glad you enjoyed the Peak District and saw some "green" though.
