Yes a great shame. He went the way of Sid Barrett of the Floyd. Wrote and played some great songs nonetheless.

Sad news. I saw him after he made a comeback with the Splinter Group in the mid-1990s. His guitar playing was as good as ever, but his voice had gone.

As mentioned earlier.....he lived on canvey island.....home of the doctor feelgood band.......met and spoke to him many times...decent bloke.....didn’t do the rock star thing, normal bloke from easy London.....,to much Charlie I’m afraid......he signed my rumours album.....sold all my vinyl, when we moved here 14 years ago.........Big regret.......not moving here, but getting rid of all my vinyl.......rest easy big fella......RIP......you LEGEND........

I thought it was some "bad Acid / LSD" that did it back in 69 from which he never really recovered?

He was always with my bro,fishing trips from Benfleet creek,jamming,he had so many guitars in his house,he was a multi millionaire and not allowed to spend as he wished it was controlled by a law firm,because he ha phsycosis brought on by a cocktail of drugs they gave him in Germany after a gig,RIP

Michelle.....I lived in Benfleet........so seeing Benfleet creek mentioned, made me smile........I employed three drivers from canvey.....they were known as the C,I,A.......canvey island allstars..........,..,one of them, was a friend of peter...........as mentioned before.........met him many times........a good old boy from east London........never forgot his roots........sadly missed .......what a player..........LEGEND"...........
