The Girne Muhtar provides the stamp as part of his fee.

He's not supposed to charge a fee, he's a Public Servant, doing the job that he's paid to do!
He should charge you for the stamp of course, if you don't supply one yourself.

KC is absolutely right there shouldn't be a "fee" for signing paperwork. Our Muhtar charges nothing. He signed at the bottom and said "just stick a stamp next to it" KC, I think Brinsley didn't actually mean that Muhtar charged anyone a fee but rather what he was paid by the Government.

We live in Karsiyaka and have never paid for a muhtar's letter even though all the other Brits seemed happy to cough up. There was only one local muhtar who didn't ask for, or expect, a payment and that was a CTP guy, who was the one before Nick (Ahmet), who has been in office for years now. Last couple of times we've been, Nick has been conspicuous by his absence and a lady has stood in. I suppose it's unreasonable for her to give her time for nothing, so I did a bit of interpreting for some of the mickey taking boozed-up Brits who were trying to get sorted and she waved me away anyway, when I tried to cross her palm.

Frontal........it all started for us, when the mukhtar was the fella from the co op shop in the village..........now that’s 14 years ago........and his office, was the shop counter...........Anyway, as I’m a bit of a Charlie chuckaway, never ever bothered to query the fee............in fact, it seemed to be the norm, for everybody.........except for you.........you must have been a bit of a geezer.........anyway, I’m off to get my calculator.......so that’s 14 letters x 2........at 20tl a pop..........hang about.........I’ve been robbed..........call a copper.......
TADAAR......

I wouldn't dispute the fact that he asks for 10TL - and given that he includes a 4TL stamp for that, it's hardly extortionate, I was merely making the point that he is already being paid for doing it...

If you're happy, that's all that matters!

10Tl is neither here nor there for me however, there maybe a few who got caught short of changing all their currency to Tl when interest beckoned at 20% + not anticipating a rapid decline of the Lira as well as the interest rates offered.

Should you wish for a few free Kukus to see you through to the end of the month please contact me!!

I agree that the amounts involved are negligible, and thanks for the offer, but I'll cope somehow :)

I was just making a pedantic point, as is my wont...

Welcome!

But I have to admit I was expecting a “will”!

Or maybe that would have been too flippant for this erstwhile gathering!
