Turkish Cypriot Public Servants Union (KTAMS) and Public Workers Union (KAMU-İŞ) started a strike today in Motor Vehicles Girne Branch. The two unions will go on strike tomorrow in all branches of the Motor Vehicles Unit.

In a joint statement made by KTAMS and KAMU-İŞ, it was stated that the two unions warned and struck repeatedly about the problems experienced in the Motor Vehicles Unit for a long time, but the necessary steps were not taken. The statement said, "With the addition of personnel shortages due to the intensity of work and problems related to health and safety due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the personnel working here and the citizens receiving service experience great grief," the statement said: "Our unions KTAMS and KAMU - İŞ have started a strike today in the Motor Vehicles Kyrenia Branch due to the tension that reaches to violence due to the problems experienced, and tomorrow, all branches of the Motor Vehicles Unit will strike and make a press release in front of the Nicosia Branch at 10.00." I suppose they can’t go on a go slow as that won’t have much impact

I must admit i was quite shocked to see a 'security' person in kibtek yesterday afternoon sat by the door and was advised people had been getting out of order. As it was only me in there i enjoyed the walk around the waiting area to get to the counter.
Rental tax office even though the cut off is the 15th (today) was completely empty and i was easily able to generate the paperwork and walk to the number machine without dodging the motor people and wait.. for my number to be called

We went to collect a driving licence yesterday. The door was locked and we were informed there had been a fight, but no worries this is Cyprus so we simply followed a helpful Cypriot to the back door and we were in! Record time in and out!

snd1966, I must admit I've always found Kibtek to be OK. I've always gone straight upstairs and never waited more than 15 mins. Never hung around downstairs though.

sophie, it's because of the Covid-19 restrictions - they are only currently allowing one client per operator into the building.

Didn't see this posting so went to office this morning 7:15 and it was locked and a few disgruntled people in the same boat.

I was just stating they had a security person to control people. Maybe thats what the car tax office want. Being hot and waiting around normally sparks the longest fuse
