New way to check out - Starlings

On Saturday I did a large shop and took 4 "long life bags" with me. As checkout girl passed items across the sensor, I picked them up and started to put into bags. "No, you must stop" "Why?" She called someone over and was informed that I could not put stuff into the bags until after I had paid for them. Hence by the time she had finished checking them, there was a huge pile of items waiting to be bagged, some of which fell on the floor. She showed me the total, and I duly paid. Then I had to start loading up bags and put into trolley. In the meantime there were two people getting more and more agitated because of hold up. A new procedure or maybe a grumpy "jobs worth"?

Perhaps you should have left the goods at the Checkout and walked out.

snd1966, honestly I don't think it was lost in translation. I suspect that someone might of bagged their goods up and just walked out without paying. PapaBravo, the thought was there - if it hadn't been so hot and having to start all over again in another store, I would have done just that.

What Starling was it?
I've been in Starling in Alasancak today and loaded myself with no problems.
Thinking back she did sort of hesitate but said "no it's okay, you have an honest face."

She said something about kidnapping old people with chickens but they were loading the shopping into my car at that point so I didn't take much notice

If it was 'old people that look like chickens' it would be nearer the mark!
