I understand the rules regarding the height of a wall between neighbors.
We have a vacant land behind us which is much higher than our property and there are houses higher after that.
If we keep to the allowed height we will be overlooked and we do not have the option of putting trees as there not enough space.
Does anyone know is the height rule different when next door land is much higher than yours?

As far as I know (cop out ) the wall must be no higher than 1.2 metres above the ground level on the highest side of the boundary - anything below that level counts as a retaining wall, not a boundary wall.

Best to check with a tapu guy to be safe!

If you are West of Girne, then the chap near Frankies is OK. - or member 'compass' would know, he's a chartered surveyor, practising in TRNC.

1.2 metres isn't enough for privacy, of course - but you can gain additional height with wooden screening on top of the wall.

It depends on who is putting up the fence, the one who is above can put it 1.2m but if the one below does its 1.2 from their ground.
In catalkoy gates had to take down the fence as the neighbours objected. Its easier if neighbours agree.
Vacant land i would assume is ok , a friend put cyprus firs in all along the back of his wall therefore when they started building they were protected by the forestry department. and of course he watered them to ensure they stayed alive.

When I moved into my villa more than 15 years ago it was open to my neighbours property. I erected a 1.2 metre stone wall and then set a line of trees on my property ...they are a mixture of cyprus pine, a silver grey pine and gravilia...they are now almost 20 metres high ....problem solved !!!!

Had the Catalkoy beledeye architect to come over and discuss our options.
Cannot increase the height of the wall which is 1.8m at the moment even with a temporary add on.
Advised to build a gazebo in front of the wall but need to go through planning as this will be considered living area which you can only have so much per land area.

They are obviously at odds with the rest of the world in definition of a Gazebo. A gazebo is minus 4 walls and can be square, round, oblong or what ever. I don't consider that as being "liveable". Just Google the word Gazebo and scores of designs come up, none of which have a wall that I can see.

What about some nice framework for the support of grapevines - that could hardly be classed as living space... ah but this Cyprus...
