I know there is a great shortage of the vaccine in the UK and are limiting those that do qualify to only those in the highest risk bracket. Whether it's Worldwide, I know not. Phone the public hospital and they should be able advise.

Checked at the British Medical Laboratory (BML) in Karaoğlanoğlu yesterday (well, the hospital next door) and they said that the Flu jab would be available 'in a couple of weeks' - forgot to ask the price though...

..and it could be a couple of 'Cyprus Weeks' (i.e. 'An indeterminate Period' ;) ), come to think of it!

There was an article in the paper not too long ago that said supplies were expected in October, and if there were vaccines around now, would be old stock from last year.

Checked with my pharmacist yesterday who said she was not expecting any until first week in November and she had no idea of what the cost would be. BTW I spoke to my daughter in UK yesterday who is doing 5 hour daily sessions for flu jabs, but in her case she has them for under 15, over 15, over 45 and over 65. I wonder what we'll eventually get here?

My pharmacist here tells me it will "Probably" be mid October as they are very late this year - they have not been told when they will be available as yet so he admits it is just an educated guess. Apparently there is only one type of flu jab here anyway that deals with age 60 and over normally but again, things change. As to the price he has as much idea as everyone else and will not risk a guess on that one. He is dealing with "Oldies" of whatever nationality comes in first!!! As an "Oldie" myself and as this is my first ever flu jab I watch and wait with everyone.

I personally think that the flu jabs in UK are just the same one and it is the qty the age groups get that is the difference - unless you subscribe to the idea that there are 4 different strains of flu around and that each only attack a specific age group of course! I would guess that an over 65 would get an arm full of flu jab but a child of 10 would only get a finger full - lol. It also makes me wonder if size matters? Would an obese 15 year old get an arm full and a skinny over 65 get a hand full - the UK has always been a mystery to me - lol.

The one that over 65's have contains an extra ingredient to help your immune system make a stronger response to the vaccine (from NHS website). There are also low egg and egg free versions available.

In UK the over 65 flu vaccine targets three strains of flu. The one given to younger people targets four strains of flu. Had mine in UK a week ago.

booked mine with lloyds pharmacy, didn't seem to be any shortage bas I had my choice of booking slots

could have waited until Dec to get it free, but decided for the sake of £12.99 would get it early
