Hello rogspur........know plenty of people in casa houses........caffe/Sait.......it’s best if you remove the built in fireplace in the corner of the lounge......easy job......but a tad messy........you will discover a hole in the ceiling, ready for your wood burner flue....have a look at the akinlar shop in town......they supply and fit.....he has done lots of casa houses, so he knows all the possible niggles.......hope that helps.....

Hi rogspur 1, I am an unfortunate 'owner' of a CaSa house and I have had a log burner fitted by Akinlar for three years now. We did as BILLYBONDZ has suggested you do and remove the chimney breast but leave the plinth for the burner to sit on. It does regulate the size of your burner but mine is not a high output one but more than adequate. It is a very messy job to remove the chimney breast and I would advise that you stipulate that the flu extends right to the top of the chimney. Having more of the burners chimney in the room means that you benefit from the considerable amount of heat from it.
Good luck

Never forget that smoke/gas will find a way out of the smallest hole!!! Consider the high standard of building workmanship in the country/house and YOU make up your own mind if you need a chimney liner that extends from the metal chimney pipe, to the top of the outside of the chimney or not! If you have a well built and gas tight chimney already then there is no problem.
I have seen lots of chimney installations over here that use a short length of steel pipe into an existing brick built chimney and they are very much NOT gas tight.
Just an extra thought for you before you install your wood burner - like what will you burn in it and of course who is going to clean the chimney and probably more important - how will it be cleaned! Lots of straight up and down chimneys about with no access hatch's built in at the start. Having run wood burning stoves here and in the UK as well I have fallen foul of most "obvious" things in my time, only trying to help!
Have a look at these people as well:
http://stoneartcyprus.com/ not cheap but you only get what you pay for in the end and they are "Expert" at what they do.

WADDO...top advice, as always........also, Stoneart have a much better variety of wood burners......and they do a good job with installing...........as mentioned earlier....the CASA houses in Karsiyaka, many people have had wood burners installed......some of the finished work is well done, but have seen a few, not so clever..............don’t forget, you can buy those alarm thingys, that alert you, if dangerous gas is in the room........must be honest, not a lover of the wood burners myself, it they do chuck out loads of heat, which is the main thing.......I will stick to my gas C/H........so much easier.........tin hat at the ready.........

Quite right Billy, I can recommend the Honeywell Carbon Monoxide Alarm XC100, it is a neat little thing, stick it in the same room as the wood burner and - hopefully - ignore it for 10 years. It is very sensitive and will alarm if the battery fails/it develops a fault or if it sniffs out the deadly gas and needs you to ventilate the room. Get one off eBay for around £20 and sleep safe at night!
Or save £2 a year and pray a lot!
I do admit that if you buy and burn quality, dry, aged wood then it can work out more expensive than gas or electric but I love to see the living flames and enjoy all the effort that goes into a good fire all through the winter - lol. One of the things I love about Cyprus is seeing and smelling the winter fires olive and carob smoke drifting around the hillsides, must be mad!

Whilst a log fire is lovely if used properly, may I ask that you think of your neighbours? Iv'e experienced the unpleasant stink that they can so easily give off (both in NC and the UK) from what is being burned in them. If the wind is low that smell just hangs in the air and wafts over the neighbours.

Only thing I know about wood burners is only to use hard wood ie fruit trees etc, not soft ie pine etc as the resin been burnt off destroys the chimney lining and burner unit. Carbon monoxide detectors are not sold in TRNC but got mine from Alibaba by post after a 6 month wait, £10 for 6. Checked mine by putting them close to the car exhaust and woke the whole neighbourhood!
