Code Name Venus

We went to see this film last night & were disappointed how empty the cinema was despite it having only been released last Friday.
It tells the true story of the events leading to the Turkish intervention in 1974 & despite the acting leaving a bit to be desired should be compulsory viewing for anyone with an interest in Cyprus.
So come on guys get up off your butts & support the director who achieved his lifetime ambition of showcasing these tragic events.

Sadly I don't think that Mr Garip got this advertised enough. He seems to have been dashing around all over the place, and was at a showing in Istanbul the night before the premiere at Lefkosia. Has anyone else seen it?

Not a question of a lack of interest, I was absolutely floored to read about it and naturally want very much to see it.

Does anyone know please the times of the screenings at Lemar Karaoglanaglu?

Advertising this will make a massive difference to attendances, hope it is in the local papers, I think today's young Cypriots (from both sides) should see it.

Will let you know what I think of it, but the trailer was quite compelling.

We did our best as ex-pats and like you are disappointed at the response - somehow or another Management didn't seem to be able to grasp the power of advertising and I suspect it will only be on for a day or two more. The Hobbit has already hit Lefkosa with a vengeance at the large cinema in the Old Town. What was the guy wearing at 54secs, I'll have to look at one of the "shorts" on Google for you, however there are a lot of them and I'm not sure which one you are referring to.

Unfortunately producing an independant film is horrendously difficult as money is virtually never forthcoming and sad to say, its a money driven industry. Expats like everyone else worked very long hours for 50tl a day.

There are a couple of British am-dram actors in the movie, have seen their names in print but right now cannot find the detail. So yes you may well have recognised someone.

The DVD is supposed to be available in 3 months but presumably will be able to get a pirate copy before then. Will check when we next go to our local shop.

Squashmad, the person facing you on 54secs is Peter Wills, he played head of the police force in Cyprus at the time. He was a nasty piece of work in the film and was a real person (I think!!) All the ex-pats have been involved in Am-Dram or choirs in the TRNC.

We, the cast, have been told that legal copies will not be available for 3 months after Premier which takes it to the last week in March. It used to be 6 months before a film could go to DVD, but it's been reduced to 3 months I understand. Yes, Peter was in the Barber Shop singers and Chorus Lambousa The rest of us have all been involved in Lambousa Theater plays and some of us Lambousa Chorus as well.

Isn't it published in last weeks Star, or you could phone the Cinema, or pop down to Lemar. Most films commence at around 7.15 and I think tickets at the Cinema are 15tl (or may be 12tl I'm not sure)
