Would you or am I wrong? Staying away when unwell

I have had several healthy discussions with friends and acquaintances about the following especially this year on whether
You feel unwell and still go out
You actually know you are unwell, with a runny nose and barking cough and still out out to mix with others
And if you are in the high risk category or live with a high risk person state its you who should stay away
My feelings this year is accountability, responsibility and manners maketh man .... but I am amazed how many think I am wrong with my attitude stay away from others when ill with their response of
Its only a cold,
If I have paid of course I would go,
Maybe they will not get paid if they do not go to work ,
and if you are the one who runs the risk of being very unwell when you catch colds and viruses you should stay in.
Bearing this attitude in mind I think we are heading for a period between December 27th to January 15th where we may see colds, flu and other contagious viruses spike and all because people feel its ok for them to spread their germs

I totally agree with you. If everyone stayed home when they were ill then a lot of viruses would soon die out. Really we should be seeing a decrease in colds, etc if everyone followed the rules for covid, it should be a beneficial side effect.
It's a bit like people who drive at dusk without lights, they may think they can see perfectly well but can other people see them.

I know from people I know that there are varying degrees of covid.
A friend of mine in his late 40s caught it from his son who caught it from a friend at uni. They both isolated. The son had minimal effects whereas my friend has been totally flattened.
I say they have covid, the only one we know for sure is the uni friend. My friend has only been in contact with his doctor via zoom so I guess he might not have it.
Something to bear in mind with the reports of these cases. How many are diagnosed by ticking the boxes of some of the symptoms and let's not take chances let's call it as covid. It's not an exact science for sure.
I am pretty sure a lot of people have probably had a version of covid, even at the end of last year, that they put down to a cold.
I am also pretty sure that a lot of people that are giving themselves the last rites for covid have a cold.
I guess a lot of people get a cold every year. I'm sure a lot of people who have very serious illnesses such as leukemia or HIV already who get that cold probably think it's connected and overlook that they get a cold every year as a matter of course but now think 'well this is it. This is the beginning of the end.'
Obviously a lot more common sense could be used here but I'm not totally convinced that if everyone locks themselves away to the end of time that illness and death will become obsolete tbh.
It's playing the odds really. If you drive at dusk without lights 99 times out of 100 it won't prove a danger but what is the harm of putting on your lights?
Also I think maybe some account needs to be taken of people's circumstances. As I said at the start of this when people seemed to take get pleasure in reporting that their neighbours had the gardeners in.
Do bear in mind that it is often the gardeners sole way to provide for his family and eat. I'm sure he was as worried about catching covid as anyone but starvation didn't appeal much either.

I agree about people having Covid before the dam burst in China. In retrospect one of my daughters is convinced now that she caught Covid during late last November, on a skiiing holiday and put it down to a continual dry cough which she treated with over the counter medicine and felt very tired afterwards.

I've heard of people as early as September 2019 who with hindsight believe they probably had it. I guess they might have had flu people now in the covid figures probably have got ordinary flu. I don't think we'll ever really know the true figures. Excess deaths only goes so far as you can't discount those who have died because of the lockdown. It's all over the shop
