Health Minister Dr . Ali Pilli made a statement as a guest on a program published by BRT. Pilli said, "If you do not take radical measures today, it will be late tomorrow", saying, "What happened in England today? The necessary measures were not taken in time, the shutdown took place, ”he said,“ We will not enter a period where the process cannot be controlled ”. Emphasizing that they will not hesitate to take the most radical measures after December 25, if necessary, Pilli said, “You take these radical measures for 10 days and 20 days, then you relax. If necessary , we impose a 21-day curfew . This decision can be taken, in consultation with the government. We have certain thoughts according to the situation of local cases ”. Pilli also used the expressions "No entry without quarantine after this hour ".

Cyprus News - Health Minister - Dr. Ali Pilli 2
(Health Minister – Dr. Ali Pilli)
New lockdown measures could be implemented as of December 25, in view of the increase in local case numbers of Covid-19, Health Minister Ali Pilli said.

The Health Minister, in an interview, told BRTK that there has been an increase in local cases since July and said, “If necessary, we will make radical decisions after the 25th. We will do whatever is necessary for the health of our people. If necessary, we will impose a curfew for 21 days. According to infection rates recorded up to 24, we can take radical measures together with the government and impose lockdown for 21 days.”

Referring to the risk of contamination from Southern Cyprus, Dr Pilli said, “The contamination is now around Türkmenköy, Pile and Akdoğan. Measures regarding the South will be taken today for that region”, he said.

Pilli also reminded everyone to follow the rules more strictly to spend the New Year’s Eve more comfortably.

When you say from 25th, does that mean from midnight on 24th?

I think the topic title is a bit misleading. All the articles are talking about 21 day curfew not quarantine.

I am pleased that they are considering what to do for us all to keep safe. Makes it a bit of a nuisance at this time of the year of course but not as awkward as contracting the disease because people are not conforming to the rules to stay safe. There are bound to be more new cases as they are testing everyone who is face to face with customers by the end of today. If we go into lock down so be it as long as it gives us a better chance.

Pilli says 21days is a threat that might happen and masks are mandatory
North Cyprus News - Face MaskThe Ministry of Health has announced that it is mandatory to wear masks and maintain social distancing in all public areas whether open or confined. The minimum distance being 1.5 metres.

Fines of 1/10 of the monthly minimum wage will be imposed on those failing to observe the rule.

A statement by the Ministry of Health said that authorities responsible for public areas, such as shops and shopping malls, businesses, workplaces, owners of entertainment places and organisers of events are obliged to ensure social distancing measures.

Failure to enforce health and safety rules will attract a fine of one month’s minimum wage and the place of business will be closed down for 24 hours

There is another thread running about the not wearing of masks but as it was mentioned here as well I think it is a good enough time to remind people about the use of masks.

This was discussed at length earlier this year but a mask isn't a silver bullet. If you are in premises where some aren't wearing masks that does not immediately place you in danger. Thing to remember is to wear your mask properly and to be careful when taking it off. If the outside of your mask becomes contaminated and lets face it that is why you are wearing it then you need to be very careful about how you handle it. If you are taking it off and putting it back on in a different shop as I am sure many of us do you need to handle it by the straps and not touch the front where you breath in and out.

Also many of us are now wearing one time only disposable masks. These really are for one time only so do not be tempted to use them again. Even if you have a washable one it needs to be washed after every outing in it.

One of the hardest things I have found all the time when wearing a mask and out and about is not to touch my face, eyes, nose. It is something we all do without a seconds thought many times a day.

Remember the mask helps protect you from particles in the air but your hands have more chance to contact the virus on any surface you touch. Remembering to wash the hands properly at the first opportunity is vital still.

I think many of us have become complacent and as a result put ourselves at a greater risk. Yes there are people out there who don't obey the rules and appear to have little or no regard for others. If we all make sure we don't fall into that category then we may avoid a further lock down. If we have to go into lock down then so be it.

I sincerely hope that all of us on here and our friends and families are still here next year to show that we can survive this determined virus.

The wearing of masks, of whatever sort, is not to protect you from the virus. Unless you get yourself into a full hazmat suit you will be susceptible to infection.

Masks are to prevent YOU from infecting other people by minimising the ejection of the virus when you cough, sneeze, talk or even breathe.

Many people seem to misunderstand the reason for masks.

Indeed but they offer a modicum of protection for a short period of time. If they didn't they would not be worn for protection against dust and fumes in a work environment. You are right in that they are to protect others from you though.

This is why it is advisable to keep a safe distance from others in a closed area. All the things that have been suggested or even ordered are to keep us safe but we have to use common sense as well. Re using the same mask for days or weeks as many do offers no protection to the user.
