Skype problem when phoning UK bank

In the past have had no problems contacting UK numbers, particularly Halifax Bank. Today after a lot of hanging about have eventually been put through three times to "real" people. Each time I can hear them clearly but they are obviously not hearing anything from me. i.e. the Skype phone at this end is completely dead to them. Any suggestions as I don't want to have to make half hour calls on mobile!!

Have just realised I hadn't made a Skype test. Have now done so and I can't hear the Echo back which means microphone "off". Very grateful if anyone can help. Thanks.

I've had this in the past Sophie on desktop, but for the life of me, can't remember how I resolved the issue. If it comes back to me, will let you know.
Are you using Skype through mobile, PC or tablet? If PC, might be an idea to put app on phone/tablet and try it that way.

It's a bank holiday today in the UK, maybe they are fielding skeleton staff?

I guess I need someone to let me know how to resolve the Skype Echo Test, when I couldn't hear the Echo. I know there are people working because I can clearly here them talking back to me saying " I am unable to hear you caller" Perhaps I'll Google the question?

If it's Windows go to settings, system, sound and check your input device.... it should register sound on the scale bar. Then do the same in Skype, settings are accessed via the three dots near top left.

Thanks everyone, problem solved. Just one "blue dot" in the wrong place out of loads of other "blue dots" in the right place was causing all the problem!!
