Giving Maras away in exchange for something we should really have anyway?

Fair point but it does make you wonder if the move to open it up after so long was to throw in another bargaining chip

So Greek! He wants to given something, that is in the occupied area over which he has no control - that is not his - to somebody else, so he can be given something else, in the occupied area over which he has no control, to do with as he wants. Put simply he is after giving away YOUR car, in exchange for you giving him YOUR house - which planet does he come from?
That idea will never fly BUT he can use it as proof that the North do not want peace and he can keep the same beneficial arrangements he has now! The start of yet another failed peace talk!

Yes how can they give direct flight it's not there's to give...but surely if direct flights are allowed then trnc is axrecognised state and it's the end. Cant really see a solution but if it's give up maras and be a recognised state that would be pretty good but it's unlikely isn't it after years of endless fruitless talks

Note :
"It has been reported...
Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides...refrained from answering questions about what the proposals were."
Perhaps the "opening" of Maraş/Varosha was designed as bait to elicit a reaction - and this reaction (if true) could be a mistake by the South (weakening their stance?) in that "the world" may now begin to reconsider and view again the South's "principles" - i.e. Maraş/Varosha could/would have been handed back way back when under the Annan plan - but the South rejected the plan.
Sixteen years later, Maraş/Varosha is "opened" - and suddenly, the "principles" that demanded flight blockades are up for sale...
Beware a greek bearing gifts - or offering trades...

I seem to recall that this was offered to the Greeks by by the TRNC government a few years ago and it was rejected out of hand. Seems that opening up Maras has focussed a few Greek minds. Well done Tatar!

Like I say I think it was a bargaining chip thrown in. The whole Erdogan picnic all seemed a bit too stage managed to me.

Or to stick 2 fingers up and show intent that we are going to move forward now despite what they do or say....

Maybe Erdogan just fancied a picnic?
