Can we all agree...

Iām sure we will all agree that after being Covid vaccinated..we will continue to socially distance using masks keeping our distance fastidious hand washing and minimise close social activity.
The vaccination does not give certain protection till at least a few weeks after the jab...it is understood.up to now, we can still catch and spread Covid even after the vaccination.
At this stage, the vaccination appears to just protect us from getting a serous attack of the disease.
I hope you will agree.

Sorry for back to back posting but just had a call to tell us to report to the state hospital tomorrow for our vaccination. Excellent service.

Totally agree! Even after the jab treat yourself as a carrier at the very least, mask on, hands washed, sanitizer wherever you want to spray it and use it often!!!!

Yes agreed. It's certainly no ticket to a different planet. Just maybe a bit less of a worry re getting the virus so badly.

Lol! Bit personal!
Seriously though, husband is 75 and it was him who got the call this am. He mentioned me and the caller said for me to go as well. I'm not quite as old as him but not far off!!

When having jab earlier this week, sadly there were a number of very elderly people who thought the same. I do sincerely hope that the Health Department, the local papers and local TV/Radio, stress the importance of continuing to treat yourself and others as if they have the virus.

Quick answer is no. Whilst I agree with what you say the fact is that we 'all' cannot agree. You and I know only too full well that many will think that the vaccine is the silver bullet to cure all and give them an invisible force field. Many will continue to visit crowded establishments and stand toe to toe and fully expect to be safe.
Individually we are responsible for our own actions and therefore safety. Just by looking at the very little news I see it is blatantly obvious that the expression covidiot is alive and well both here and in the UK.

Once the elderly (over 60) and vulnerable are vaccinated they and the rest of the population can go back to their normal lives.
Lockdowns are put in place to relieve pressure on hospitals not for general population wellbeing.

Not really because it isn't known if once you have the vaccine whether if you have the virus you can still pass it on.

That's not the point of the vaccine.
The point is to protect the vulnerable. If they catch it the theory is that symptoms will be much reduced and they will not therefore need medical attention and hospitals will not be overrun.
The vaccine is obviously not a cure. Just a means to open the world without medical services being overwhelmed.
The UK is up to over 6m today and the infection numbers are falling off a cliff. The death numbers will follow over the next few weeks.
Hopefully come Easter we will have something that looks like normality.

From
www.nhsinform.scot
"The coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine does not cause a coronavirus infection. It helps to build up your immunity to the virus, so your body will fight it off more easily if it affects you.
This can reduce your risk of developing coronavirus and make your symptoms milder if you do get it."
THEREFORE if you "open the world" and "the rest of the population ... go back to their normal lives..." - you -
and I (just having had the jab) can go out and infect others - because it does NOT stop me - or you - from being infected; merely lessens (hopefully) the severity!
It is an extremely useful, desirable and imperative by-product/side effect of the vaccinations that will (hopefully) ease the strain on the NHS.
I will NOT be going back to my "normal life" here in the UK, in order to avoid being infected (even slightly) and subsequently infecting others - incidentally - "...the infection numbers are falling off a cliff..."
from
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-r-number-in-the-uk
Latest R number range for the UK
0.8 to 1.0
Latest growth rate range for the UK
-4% to -1% per day
An R number between 0.8 and 1.0 means that, on average, every 10 people infected will infect between 8 and 10 other people.
A growth rate of between -4% and -1% means that the number of new infections is shrinking by between 1% and 4% every day.

Yes we were lucky. Having been told to come between 2 and 3 o'clock we arrived at 1.30. Got ticket numbers 253 and 254. At that time they were calling for 166. They seemed to stop issuing tickets at about 260 or so. We were seen at about 4 o'clock. Well organised and very quick once we were called in. Also all the staff were cheerful and lovely.

There is an online form to apply. I will try to find it for you as I can't remember.

A bit of confusion now! Having been told that the on line form is only to give the Goverment an idea of how many vaccinations they will need overall and then seeing that Girne State Hospital is calling people for their appointments and additionally seeing that Girne State Hospital have setup an appointments system, whereby you must go there and apply for vaccination I now am unsure of what to do next?
Being 73 and assuming that it is only the >80ās being vaccinated at this time I think I should just wait and do nothing yet?
Anyone else doing anything else?

I got mine yesterday Waddo and so did my husband. He's 75 and I'm 71. The only other foreigner we saw there was 72 and he had also been called on Saturday to turn up yesterday. I obviously don't know what the system is but there were no questions asked so if you really want to get done ASAP I would just turn up at the Devlet Hospital, get a ticket and wait your turn.

Laura B, Thanks for that. Happy to let the old folks go first as feeling fairly fit and happy at this time and not in a rush. Wife only 66 and we prefer to do them both together if possible anyway. Will give it another week to see what else comes out in the news I think. Back to hedge cutting and fence building for me!

Waddo it will be interesting how this pans out. We were given a card with the vaccine batch number on and our details and a date to return for our second jab....one month today. I'm wondering if we'll get another phone call for that or just turn up. If no call then we shall go anyway. If they are doing approx 260 a day in Girne and there are I think, 4 other sites they are going to get through us all fairly quickly. All will depend on the vaccines arriving from Turkey I guess. Enjoy your hedge cutting, fence building!

Applied on line last week, but to be on safe side popped down the hospital to register on Friday afternoon after being told that was the way. Told to go back this morning around 8.00 as they had finished for the day. Glad I didn't bother to get up early, lol. Went around 10.30 only to be told that they had stopped that registration process at the hospital due to so many people turning up, so on line is the way. Just awaiting phone call now.

Not many, a few sitting on the seats opposite the entrance, and quite a few milling around inside, with lots of people coming and going. Car park was a bit difficult, but, again, lots of coming and going. I think there was a guy, a policeman maybe, with a clipboard, who may have been giving out numbers and directions.

Thanks Mrsgee. Yesterday there were about a hundred people waiting when we got there and as we have to go back in four weeks on Monday 22nd I just wondered what it was like today.

Well hopefully, with the new process, if they stick to it, it should be more organised. I think some people have just been turning up, wnating the jab, but not been allocated, perhaps. Maybe that is why they have changed it. Fingers crossed it will be better by the time you have to go again, and for us once we get called. Best of luck anyway.

Sophie. I'm wondering if we shall receive a call beforehand as they were very particular yesterday on taking down the phone number for computer records. However we shall go earlier than we did yesterday as so many people had been given the 2 to 3 o'clock time the same as us and when they arrived on time all the tickets were gone. No questions were asked at any stage as to whether we'd had a call, an appointment or even our age!

Say you're 90 and walk to the head of the queue, you'll need sharp elbows though.

To be totally fair there were two security guards and no-one was allowed to queue jump.
