Nominate charities for Kibkom to donate

Please can kibkomers nominate charities to receive donations from Kibkom. I will be handing out money generated through sales from Kibkom advertising banners to charities in March this year. Total figure will be announced nearer the time as I am hoping that more companies will advertise which will add to the donations. Although I had initially stated that a high percentage of "profits" will be donated, I am happy to say that not a penny will be taken for the cost of running the Kibkom Forum and all money taken will be donated, the cost of running the forum will come out of my own pocket.
Companies that have advertised on Kibkom will get a mention when donations are made, to thank them for their kind support.

You really are too generous, and I hope that Kibkomers will respond. I hope too that others will advertise. I still keelp hearing stories of mistrust for fora ingeneral after Cyprus 44, which is totlaly unfair, as the Cyprus 44 site was good and Kibkom is as good if not better - guess I should say 'better'. as for giving to charity, as far as I am concerned they are all needy, - it just depends which way your heart is drawn. My own feeling would be for KSF, or SPOT, or NCCCT, as CIN at the moment have such a fab fund raising team that they are able to supply equipment of a fantastic kind (the latesat being the bus for the school), and of course KAR is always needing money but needs thousands more if it is to expand, but for those who love animals, KAR can never hav e enough money. So, I will go with the flow on thi sone. But it will be interesting to see what others feel.
and thanks Soner!

KAR has been close to my heart for many years and having spent some time up there walking the dogs, it's easy to see what hard work has and is being done, but also to see what improvements could be made with an injection of extra funds.
These animals should be living in people's homes as pets, instead they lead a far from perfect life, but better than living on the streets. KAR is trying very hard to spread awareness outside of North Cyprus and attract sponsorship etc from abroad, but some extra funding from within would be a very welcomed surprise.
So KAR for me.

How kind of you Soner. I dont know if she is a charity or not, but I believe her name is Jackie and she does such a lot for the cats. There was an article not so long ago in the Star I believe. I also think that Tulips is another good cause, there are so many to choose from, maybe all the charities that get a mention have the names put in a hat and you nominate how many will be drawn and the funds split between them.

Children In Need are another one that have various projects that need help.

I like Lor51's idea, but Children in Need or Tulips are both two very worthy charities, that really do need all the help they can get, so perhaps the idea of hat is a good one, and well done for your generosity and also Kibcom x

The cat lady is Jan McGhee and she looks after the strays at Bogaz Harbour, gettin gthem speyed and fed and does a grand job.
Also of course there is the Royal Family of Kumyali - the donkeys, and Davcid Eacock and friends who care for them, also need money(or they pay from their own pockets.
Maybe a small sum would be of greater value to people like that than to the larger charities. flor instance children in need work jolly hard but manage to raise3 thousands at a function, and onlyu recently bought that bus for the special Children's Centre.
so maybe name sin a hat would be a good idea.
But what does the boss ((soner) think???

I think we could split equally and give to all charities nominated. I guess every small amount counts and will be of some help whether charity is big or small. Amount to donate this year is not that big so far, but am in hope that more companies will advertise before we donate in march, which will increase the donations. Otherwise, I hope that next year and the year after will be better, as this is after all only our first year.

I know that my appeal is not for a registered charity, but I was taught that charity begins at home and with this in mind I nominate a little boy Ismail, who has lost one arm by an horrific accident and is now in danger of losing is other arm through cancer. Lee Hickens and his lovely wife Jan are doing brilliantly in thier efforts to raise monies for on going treament to hopefully save this wonderful little lad from losing his arm, or worse still his life.
Thank You

I nominate KAR. The people there work so very hard to try an improve the lives of animals and I might add, the environment of the KKTC. Less dogs and cats, less carnage on the roads, less dead animals, and less animals to be abused, beaten and starved. They never have enough money to do all that is needed.

I also would nominate KAR. What a marvellous job they do here. What would we be like without them? Unimaginable really.

I agree with the last 2 postings re: KAR.
The staff work 365 days a year in all weathers without moaning and over the years have really made a difference to the lives of animals here in TRNC.

I think Karakum Special Needs School does not get much publicity or help, SOS children's Orphanage in Lefkosia also only really seem to get mentioned at Christmas. They both help lots of children and need funds. And of course all the cancer charities do amazing work and are something we may all need at some point, if not for us, for family or people we know.

My wife has done some volunteer stuff for SOS Children's Village and they are well-run in my book and could always use some help. Tulips, of course, is always worth a donation as we have all seen, I'm sure, that they put it to good use. KUSKOR is another good organization that is rarely mentioned but do some good, concrete environmental work here.

At the risk of being shot down by the supporters of the animal charities, surely children`s charities of any description should be our number 1 priority.

I would also like to nominate KAR. The volunteers do a tremendous job but the animals do need all the help they can get as their living conditions really need to be improved and obviously they need to be fed as well as have vet treatment as and when needed.

KAR, please. They are really up against it with fundraising. Everybody, both ex-pat and locals, loves children and cancer sufferers, but only a proportion of society is interested in dealing with the animal problem, apart from moaning about it. Therefore they have a much smaller potential donor base. The other thing to remember that the cancer and childrens charities have the back-up of state facilities such as hospitals and ambulances etc., whereas KAR have to fund absolutely everything themselves.
As somebody intimated earlier, solving the animal problem doesn't just help puppies and kittens, it stops tourists being put off the country by having to tolerate sick and starving animals wandering around. And believe you me, it really matters to them.

Why, each to their own and I agree that the vast majority share your view, therefore, it is down to people like us to give the animals a voice otherwise they would suffer in silence

Children do not have a voice either and often suffer terrble abuse and hardship in silence as well. I tend to agree with Zebedee that children should be more important than animals and on reading any forum here it is obvious that animals get a lot of priority from ex pats here. They are taken in, fed, looked for when lost and everyone rallies round. Not many children seem to get that sort of attention. Just my opinion.

Although I totally agree with zebedee and you zarafet, I think you risk the thread going off topic by the 'backlash' your opinion will generate.
Soner is being very generous and it is his money that will go to wherever it goes.
If all of the charities nominated get something, it is better than nothing.

You are quite right Blue Butterfly. Sorry for taking it off thread. Soner will of course donate to whomever he wants. After all it's his generous donation, not ours, and whoever benefits I am sure will be very grateful.

I have read the postings with interest and think Soner is very generous in making this donation to whichever charity or charities he decides.
One observation I would like to make regarding animal and people charities is that the NCCCT raised around 9,000tl at their Christmas bazaar and KAR raised 18,000tl surely this shows where peoples loyalties lie.Incidentally I support both.

Apologies if my post has taken thread " off track ". It was just my personal opinion and of course everyone is entitled to make their own suggestions to Soners very generous offer. I`m sure every charity, be it animal or children deserve funding.
No offense to anyone intended.

I do not msg on here often but feel I have to respond to your message as it needs to be brought into context, this is the line that I am concerned about that you wrote above:
'The other thing to remember that the cancer and childrens charities have the back-up of state facilities such as hospitals and ambulances etc.,'
Help Those With Cancer Association/Tulips pay for those so-called 'back-up state facilities' that you refer to. Without Tulips there would not be an Oncology unit for cancer patients because the government didn't pay for it and nor do the government pay the wages of the staff that run this unit, nor do they pay for the Oncologist to come over from Turkey every week to hold a clinic etc etc etc.
I could list many things that this charity provides but these are just a few and this is why they need so much money every month just to keep their heads above water!

As in my previous input I would nominate KAR and all the charities deserve our praise, but having had quite long discussions with the Chief Executive of SOS childrens village I would point out that they do receive financial assistance from the Government and work closely with the TRNC social services. That's not to say they can't always do with more, but they don't rely on volunteers and most of the staff are on a salary.

I too would like to nominate KAR for this very kind offer. I remember what it was like before this charity was set up and know some of the difficulties they have faced along the way.
