Can anyone recommend a reliable, lightweight rechargeable hoover or where to please.

We have a Bosche one. All I can say is don't bother with one of them.

Do you actually mean Hoover (if so I've never seen one in the North) lightweight or otherwise.

Maybe I should have said cordless vacuum cleaners?

Chris, gave ours away! Now have a Dyson - magic - sadly only available in the South or bring one back with you on your next UK visit.

We have 2, one a Dyson! which is sadly rubbish, but the other one is a Vax, was half the price of the Dyson and soooooo much better

We have a Dyson Cordless which we brought from UK.
It was very handy until the battery died overnight. Only 3 years old and unable to buy spare battery in North.

If you decide to go down the cordless route buy a spare battery and also a spare filter as the filters do get dirty very quickly.

Don’t give up your corded vacuum. You will still need it!

I have a rechargeable Vax Blade Pro 32V it runs for about 3/4 hr fully charged, I just plug it in to electric to re charge each time when I have finished, it’s great.

Can I purchase the Vax Blade in the North?

'Shark' have a good write up in 'Which' however, my Dyson v6 is fine except when the battery is old and dying. A new battery brings it back to, 'as new' with good, thorough cleaning maintenance.

The battery run time on my Dyson especially on full power is very limited. Mine failed and I replaced it with an uprated one ((ebay uk) this also came with spare pull out top filters. These need washing regularly, can take several days to dry thoroughly so a second filter is essential. I find it fiddley to empty the dust cannister, if its removed completely it can be a pain getting it refitted. Regarding a spare battery, these do not simply unclipped like the ones on a power tool, it is a screwdriver job, although not difficult you can't just throw a fully charged spare on. Some cleaner such as Shark I think do come with a second battery that just clips on. I seem to recall whe i priced a new battery from a firm in the south it was a lot more expensive than one bought from the UK.

G Tec excellent had it for 12 months son has one so does his German mother inlaw all swear by them

Bought our first GTec in 2013; bought a second one in 2016 (now keep one upstairs, one downstairs!), both excellent and still working well, BUT - just one weak point is that the roller is not belt-driven but a nylon gear. If a cord/shoelace/string or similar is caught up in the roller, that gear will possibly strip - replacements are available and can be DIY fitted - I've done it twice, somewhat fiddly but how to do is shown on YouTube.
I would still highly recommend GTec.

Gtech get the thumbs up in this household too - for day-to-day cordless vacuuming. Gtech in a different league to cordless Dyson.

However for a proper vacuum cleaner it takes a lot to beat the Henry or the Miele Cat&Dog vacuum cleaner - both corded, not cordless - l know that. Just saying.

Hmmm..... my old Hoover cylinder (1965 engagement gift!), now relegated to the garage for occasionally picking up sawdust, plaster, sand/cement and the like is still working well this afternoon - anything that still works is not thrown away - if it tries to die, I'll b****y well revive it! Nothing's going to slope off before me!

jofra, I wish someone could revive my old Dyson, its an old upright and lives in the garage. I took it to Tektan once, they said it was an electrical problem. They taped a couple of wires together and it worked perfectly for a month and then died again. Can't bring myself to dump it though, so waiting for a miracle!
