Can anyone suggest a good car port installer? The thick fabric type on poles. Or does anyone have any experience to share, good or bad about them?

Are you sure you want fabric?
You can get look a like (tiles) plastic sheeting that lasts longer.

You will be forever renewing the fabric.

Does the plastic sheeting that looks like tiles stand up to the sun's heat. My ex-neighbours carport which was roofed in that stuff was shredded by hailstones!

Yes it does stand up to the heat. Hailstones are a different matter.

That's really good.

My advice to use chipboard sheets with roof felt. You can have a wooden frame or better still a metal one. Stay away from cheap plastic tiles as already mentioned.

Why not use real tiles?

The weight Groucho, it's ages ago since I built my own but I worked out the roof tiles weight was equivalent to the weight of the car I was parking in it!!!

So of the framework had to be strong/heavy enough to support it all.

If you are building afresh and weight is not a problem, a construction with proper tiles is the way to go.

We were told. If you use concrete roof tiles its classes as permanent structure. Has to be put on Kocan

Mimi2, yes the people we eventually had build ours said exactly the same. We don't have our full Title Deeds and could be made to take it down as it could be classed as living accommodation. (even though it is open on all four sides)!!!

I'd use Okten Arman again 090 5428 550928. Arman Metals. Built our car port. Metal frame, red plastic roof panels. Built April 2018 and still good.

With respect Hector you only had it built 3 years ago, I would certainly hope its "still good".
