Need for second jab??

Having had the first AZ jab and second due in July, I was wondering if anyone had thought to have blood test for antibodies to the virus done to see if a second jab is really necessary. Big Pharmas will say 'yes' of course but I just wondered.

You may be right but it may cause a problem if you want to travel anywhere as 'double vaccination' is becoming a requirement for entry to most countries. Though the new Johnson and Johnson Janssen vaccine, recently delivered to TRNC, only requires one jab.

A number of private labs here can do the antibody test, so you could test your theory out.

Nooooo, we all stood in line to have our second jab, just to fill in the time. Why don't you phone Pfizer, Astra Zeneca etc, etc and see what they say. Better still, read up on all the vaccines and find out why it is essential to have two. However I believe there is one company who say one jab is all that is needed, but for certain age groups.

Some chatter about a third jab as a booster for some makes.

I read a couple of weeks ago that the UK.are thinking of offering booster jabs in the autumn but it could be a different brand to the first two injections received. The thinking seems to be this would cover all bases.

At present there's no evidence of using a different make including any danger to health.
Research needed.

thats not true. an AZ followed by Biontech was deemed to be even better as 2x AZ.

my prediction: AZ will fade out and all boosters will be done with mRNA. UK ordered millions of Biontech. 50 or so.

Fairly pointless just having the one then.

I was asked to take part in a govt trial of mixing the vaccines to test efficacy so they are definitely researching it.

Both Italy and Spain are looking at giving those people who have had their first jab ,Astra Zenica , to get a Pfizer or moderno second jab.

since weeks, German RKI (robert koch institute) and "stiko" (permanent vaccine commission) advises all under 60 who got a AZ 1st shot to have the second with mRNA. gives even better protection.

Thank you everyone for mostly informative and interesting replies. I am now wondering how I could go about getting a different make jab for my second one, and what is available here in NCyprus.

Lapta clinic - went for my second jab and asked for a different vaccine. On the door was a notice saying Sinovac and AZ and another one available. The on-line registration form (now abandoned as apparently NC has plenty of vaccines available now in all areas) asks which vaccine you want, the choice is yours. However on arriving at the Lapta Clinic today they refused a different vaccine from the first one for the second jab. I was told to get permission in writing for this from the Ministry of Health in Lefkosa.

In the UK is now thought more effective to have the second one as a different make.

Also for information, there were queues waiting outside but even so, they were dealing with everyone very quickly and efficiently.

This is a direct quote from The Who Website (for some reason I can't copy the URL), so regardless of what the UK say and do I will follow the Who are dealing with every Nation:

"Clinical trials in some countries are looking at whether you can have a first dose from one vaccine and a second dose from a different vaccine. There isn't enough data yet to recommend this type of combination."

Having said that - if I get offered a "Third" booster jab of a different vaccine when that kicks off later this year - I will still have it just in case - after all I had the first two before the Who said it was approved - lol.

Went to Girne State Hospital this morning, no appointment, and got 2nd AZ jab one month earlier than stated on green card. Brilliant service, and 4 months of running around to Famagusta and Gecitkale hospitals only to be turned away, has now come to an end.
Happy days!

McDonalds here I come! (8))

McDonalds was our first stop this morning Soner - lol. Crossing was painless if you discount the miserable old goat in the car registration place. Ended up with only a one month permission to drive instead of the normal one year - it’s because we are British and therefore tourists he told us! Everyone else on both sides was helpful, happy and smiling, worth the trip for the shopping and change of location for a few hours but glad to be back!

You don't need an appointment but go after 10am or a bit later (they close at 2pm) it can be very busy earlier and take your passport (can't remember if they wanted to see residency for 1st jab). Go to the rear of the hospital and go up the ramp from the car park, once through the doors go straight ahead and downstairs, follow the signs saying 'vaccination room'. The Astrazeneca jabs are done in room 309, the Sinovac on opposite side of corridor. AZ jabs are more widely accepted for travel purposes. Friends went today after 10am and there wasn't a queue.

Go to rear of Girne State Hospital (Akcicek Hospital), take road Karakiz Sokak to hospital carpark. https://www.google.com/maps/place/AKÇİÇ ... 33.3255532
No need to go up the ram, on the ground floor left of the ram is a door with a blue canapé outside. I went about 8:30am and only a few people waiting a outside by the door. Staff member will come out to give numbers, but they call 10 numbers at a time. Both AZ and Sinovac vaccines done from same entrance, inside there are 2 rooms, one for each type of vaccine.

BTW, they are administering 1st and 2nd jabs, no appointment needed, just Passport.

I will definitely have fun and games with a British Passport and a TRNC Kimlik with different Surname (given by TRNC authorities without any choice....long story), Kimlik not being accepted by RoC as states born in UK.
Will let you know how I get on next week when I make the trip.
