I watched from my home just north of the ravine in Karsiyaka. Scary, then I realised the wind was blowing from East to West, away from the village.
Loads of sightseers in our usually very quiet little road, but also officials on radios. One told me he had called for a helicopter. but it was not a fire fighter, apparently they were using it to spot flare ups. The firefighters (how efficient) were still up there at 11pm, I could see loads of vehicle lights. This morning, a truck from the Belediyesi collected all the garden rubbish from the ravine side of our road. Someone must have realised that this is also a fire hazard. I just hope and pray that no-one was hurt and that the few properties closer than us were not damaged.

The Forestry Department initially said the fire was caused by the power lines there. However KıbTEK seems fairly certain that its power lines were not the cause. Indeed KıbTEK has released charts which show power in the lines was only disrupted at 13:08, roughly 40 minutes after the fire broke out.
See the report/charts/"evidence" in the link:

I have lived In Karsiyaka about 18 years, loved it, now I just think of it as a "ooops" hole. In the last two years it has turned into a dumping ground, side turnings are full of rubbish that has been dumped. Know it’s been Bayram but garden waste piling up, people are quite willing to,pay for it to be taken away, so that is no excuse. We used to have all the weeds cut down yearly because they grow high, nothing done with those. What are our council members up to. Give me a ring and let’s sort this "ooops" out.
