I'm not certain how well this ban on entry to (and fires in) picnic/forested areas is being enforced - a couple of days ago, while travelling over the mountains from Girne, we saw the smoke from someone apparently having a barbecue in the Boğaz Picnic area

It is important that anyone who sees smoke/fire reports it to the Fire Service. Better to be wrong and safe than let the country burn! Whilst on holiday here many years back I was the 2nd responder to a fire in some empty ground next to a friend of a friends house. The local population were watching, having already called the fire service but we took action with hose pipes and submersable pumps into the swimming pool, we had almost gotten the fire under control when the Fire Service arrived.
The sight of an old olive tree catching fire and virtually exploding will stay with me for life!! As an ex military person who was part of the Green Goddess Brigade during the Fireman's strike in the UK, I though I knew about the speed of fire - not even close - if you have never been involved in a fire then please do not hesitate to inform the fire service straight away - the life you save may be your own!!!

Very wise words waddo. Rubber kneckers at it again it would seem. Action speaks a lot more than words in your case.
