High Income Residency Renewal

Anyone out there in the above bracket - people who either do not wish to purchase, hold leaseholds or just plain rent - tried to renew residency for two (2) years yet?

Also, on this new system, there appears a question regarding income but no apparent way to upload bank statements etc! Even after filling in where the income originates and giving a total income figure in Sterling, after pressing “save” the green tick never appears! Do we still provide this information in hard copy paper at the police station?

Feel free to share this with anyone!!

I’ve done it twice online and never uploaded a bank statement yet. I just take stuff along to the police station. Tbh you can upload a copy of your passport and mukhtar’s letter but I believe you are still expected to produce it at the police station so it’s pretty academic. Just upload the bare minimum you need to get your police appointment

No I’m still under 60, which will surprise many I know, but I was a crotchety old git in my teens tbh.
I’d imagine the same applies though, as in your going to have to lump it all to the police station anyway so don’t sweat not being able to upload it.

Ha, ha, this will be our 15th lump, every year a different system with different rules and more paperwork but what the hell, love it here anyway. Hassan still smiles and asks me why the British need so much paperwork for a very simple thing! For the last five years he has been telling me to get permanent residency and can not understand why we can’t, that makes three of us - lol. Take care out there.

If they won’t go full residency I can’t see why they won’t give 10 years but you have to pay 10 years fees and medical insurance up front and no refunds if you peg it.
The income requirements and proof of address are pretty pointless. If you don’t have enough money you’ll starve, it’s not like the state are going to give you any.

For the state it’s a chunk of money upfront when they most need it. It’s a bet they can’t lose.

For the applicant they take a view. “It’s a gamble as I’m now 75/80/85 so I don’t think I’ll last 10 years but even if I get 4 it’ll be worth it to save the yearly aggravation.”

Seems so obvious to me. No electrical firm ever lost money selling extended warranties

Works for me but the BRS would be against it for sure! At 74 I would be happy to pay for 5 or even 10 years residency/health insurance - I will do that for a driving licence so why not for a staying license?

I’m sure they would but are they working for their interests or the British Residents?
It’s like all these set ups, most big charities being a particular example, is it about doing what is best for those they are purported to help or about having control and earning £££?

Waddo My husband has just got 2 years, uploaded Muhktar's letter and passport, took all the other bits and bobs to the police station, then paid the health insurance for 2 years and waited for about 12 weeks and paid the residency and then up popped the residency permit.
Hope that helps.

lilnrob, Thanks for that information. The key question for us is: Is he renting/leasing? The wording on the “On Line” application is specific, a high income applicant can apply for 6 months initially and then 1 year thereafter!

A bit silly really as I have had two years at a time since that option started without problem and have leased/rented here for the past 14 years without ever setting foot off the Island.

Waddo, This was his second year on line, he only got one year for the first on line application, but I think that was the norm for everybody. We have been renting for 8 yrs.
