After more than a year of no locally transmitted cases in NZ they now have local transmission again Looks bad. Started with a single case. It's delta and it is known by genetic sequencing to have come from the NSW (New South Wales, Australia) outbreak but they have not traced the transmission route yet. Latest known cases is now 10 and some bad locations including hospitals, churches and schools. NZ has the lowest vaccination % of rich countries. They went in to level 4 (their highest level) lock down on discovery of the first single case. No doubt having watched NSW and what has happened there with this variant. Both NZ and Aus had shown in the past they could close down local transmission but now they are both being tested by delta variant and it is not yet know if they can contain this variant in the way they controlled previous ones. NSW in Australia is on a 'knife edge' with numbers of daily local cases there up in the 5 and 6 hundreds despite some of the toughest lockdown and contact tracing systems being used. Fingers crossed that they both manage to get back to zero or near zero local cases while they play catch up on vacination.

Vaccination is the way to get on top of the virus.

It will always be around, so the more that take a vaccine offer the better.

The U.K. government has made mistakes over the last 18 months, however the vaccine roll out programme is world leading. Restrictions have been eased and whilst we are not there yet, things are slowly returning to normal. The take up for both doses of the vaccine has been high and this week saw 16-17 year olds coming forward to be vaccinated. September will see booster vaccinations start along with the annual flu jab.

Also since the easing of restrictions and to my surprise the majority of people are still being cautious. Mask wearing is still common, social distancing is still practiced, hand sanitising is the norm and in the main people are using there common sense.

Boll@cks you can go to the UK with a PCR test and going in to isolation for 10 days but how you get there is a farce.
Tax,Bus, or thumbing along the motorway.
No question as how you are going to get to the designated place that you give.

Not sure what point you are trying to make. It depends on what country you arrive into the U.K. from. For some countries proof of vaccination, a negative PCR test is required for entry. Then home isolation for 10 days. Home isolation has been tightened up with very regular checks. For other countries it’s hotel quarantine. The government as you know change the country status regularly.

NZ has a very low take up of vaccination, which is surprising in my opinion. They have also been in virtual closure for the last 18months and despite this the virus has got in and is spreading. Not being vaccinated increases the chance of contracting the virus. Less people vaccinated, the virus can take hold quickly. Vaccinations protect against the virus and if you do contract it you are less likely to become seriously ill. Much like the flu vaccine, it won’t stop you getting flu but it will make symptoms easier to manage. That is a fact.

The U.K. vaccination rollout is world leading. It is proven to be a way to suppress the virus, protect the population and get back to some normality.

There has to be an exit strategy, locking down and closing borders is not a long term solution.

Vaccination is the way to do it.

For info my sister lives in NZ and has just received her first jab. She is in her Eighties! That is how far behind they are.

One person travelled from Auckland to the Coromandel peninsula on holiday, returned home and found to be positive, not knowing who he had interacted with. Hence the Country lock-down. No evidence of him been close to any border arrivals.

I have volunteered at a mass vaccination centre since it opened in January this year. I can tell you first hand that the logistics, organisation and operation of the U.K. vaccine roll out is world leading.

You have to be involved to see what a massive undertaking it has been which started from nothing. Remember the first vaccination was only offered in Dec last year, when vaccination centres had yet to be set up. Go back earlier this year when the EU were trying to block the U.K. vaccine purchasing because they were so far behind.

The U.K. has delivered 88M vaccinations in total. Over 90% of the U.K. population have had first dose. Just over 77% have had two doses. There will always be those who will refuse to have the vaccine as is their choice.

Well done to those countries or dependencies who have vaccinated the majority of there population but I am not sure comparing the population of Gibraltar, Malta or Pitcairn Island with the U.K. is fair.

Vaccinations are ongoing and boosters to start next month.
