Is it still feasible to go swimming in the Sea at Xmas? I know the sea temperature will be about 19c, is this comfortable and how long should you stay in the water? Any tips from the hardy folks out there !!!!!!

If the sun is shining it's not too bad, done it many times.

There is always a Christmas swim here. Can't recall if it is Christmas Day or Boxing Day but I believe it is at Aligadi Beach. To be fair I don't need to know really as I won't be doing it. My swimming is all done in the pool because I know what fish do in the sea!

I suppose if someone is coming from the UK , 19c is positively balmy. Thanks for the replies.

Think I would be more concerned as to what us humans do to the sea, as opposed to what the fish do.

I continue to swim in our pool until temperature gets to 18c which about mid Nov. then it is too cold. so I would think the sea would be still ok at Xmas.

Without a doubt but the thing about the fish was meant to be a joke.

Lots of very brave people about! I won’t get in the pool till it is above 26 but then I am old, weak and hate the cold. Good luck to all Christmas swimmers, last time I did that here was in 1972 - lol.

The sun sometimes makes it seem warmer on nice days, but although its not too cold for some hardy good swimmers I have found that its just so cold when you get out !

Just be careful when you break the ice as you get in....
