Looking for any positive recommendations on world wide travel insurance for both family and over 70s.

Just done mine at Ceremi Travel-almost opposite the GAU road an the old road into town(west side)

Check out Insure and go. Always used them in the past and never had any problems at all.

The trouble is finding an insurer to cover you when you reside in TRNC. You can be sure that insurance companies will do everything to avoid paying out, they tend to ask for lots of evidence when you make a claim.

'You must have resided in the UK for no less than 6
months, have a permanent UK address and be registered with a UK General Practitioner.'

Didn't have to make a claim so can only say they covered people who reside in TRNC.

Yes... Not many UK based companies out there that will insure you unless you start and return your journey to and from the UK.
Make sure you declare everything. Sadly
Father in law failed to do so and got a 15 thousand pound bill from the near East hospital and more expenses to repatriate hes dead body for not declaring previous conditions just recently

Did not realise that you only meant from TRNC - my bad! As have never travelled anywhere since getting here in 2007 I have never looked for insurance for somebody who is based solely here.

Insurance (particularly in the case of a death here/repatriation to UK) is total minefield I understand. I can't help thinking that is why there are so many burials here rather than back in UK. The cost is so prohibitive and the small print is so small and complicated.

We used Cerimi Travel Insurance for a cruise and they paid up promptly when we had a claim relating to medical expenses whilst on board. Both over 70 at the time.

Cremations are illegal in TRNC.

Not allowed in south either or so I have been informed. Don't want burying so better to go to a country where they do cremations .. leaving your family to tend your grave when they don't live here is not on my to do list.
Regarding ceremi insurance. What was the price roughly and did they cover Cyprus to Cyprus . More importantly .. death or illness cover

We booked 6 weeks for about 38 Euros each worldwide
Insurance only starts as you take off. Doesnt cover you in Turkey as Turkish company.

Not sure from your reply, but does this cost include flight repatriation from anywhere in the world (as you say not Turkey) to UK i.e. with a nurse to accompany you etc? If it does, then 38 Euro per person seems extremely reasonable for world wide cover.

Am I missing something .. a Turkish company selling worldwide travel insurance that does not cover turkey?
Better not fly from ercan to UK via turkey then ......

Travel insurance never covers you in your own country

Never knew or realised that .
So if I go on holiday to turkey from here then can I not get travel insurance then.
Suppose the question is ... Is northern cyprus classed as turkey . If so then how can you safely cover yourself whilst on holiday in turkey?

I don't think the business of non insurance in the same country is necessarily true. i.e. if you go on a coach tour of the UK etc., you can certainly obtain insurance for both health and loss/damage of luggage. How do ATA etc arrange insurance when they go on their 5 day trips from say TRNC to Istanbul etc.

As a matter of interest we intend to visit our son in the US . Previous amounts for Health insurance bought in the TRNC were very low for possible medical costs in the US . A check on the the Uk providers suggests a minimum of £5 million for medical over.
As usual to get cover means starting and finishing your journey in the Uk.
Can anybody tell me what the medical cover they have obtained here and for how much they were covered?

cambridge, I think the estimates quoted for medical treatment in the USA at 5million is about right. 15 years or more ago we were advised to cover from one Million and above!! Granted that was from UK back to UK, calling at Jamaica and Cuba. Cuba in those days was completely free, but not repatriation back to UK.

With Ceremi insurance you have to pay your own bills, what happens if you have huge bills in say USA would they pay for you because I am sure most people couldn't pay a million or more dollars up front?

Have just read in an online magazine that a basic D and C in the US is around $10,000. That being the case, $5,000,000 is good going!! The US hospital would possible keep your passport until they received the money. Much the same as they do here of course.
