Does anyone know if I can renew my passport online and have it sent to my son's UK address as he is coming over and can bring it?

As above. Did it yesterday for a friend. You need to take a photo to upload to the website. There software checks on the photo are a bit picky, but I have submitted ones where they have said it did not meet the correct criteria and still had it accepted. Easy to complete. You have to return your old passport to them unless it has been lost.

Forgot to say, make sure you use the gov website because others advertise to do it and want to charge you.

Sultan, Did you send the old passport back from here. Or can you send it when the new one arrives?

Had a friend post it back when they went back to UK two days after online application.

Passport office will not process your new passport until they have received your old one.

I'm guessing Jane M is having her's renewed here and sent here.
For this I understand you now need proof of residency which is why you need a Muhtar's letter.
A friend recently got a Muhtar's letter for her residency and it was 4TL.
I'm guessing probably the same for passport renewal.

When I renewed mine here I merely scanned in a copy of my resi permit. I cannot imagine a muhtar's letter is going to mean much to the UK passport office!

That makes sense Laura - I have no idea haven't done mine recently.
I was only told by a friend that they now had to show proof of your residency here and address.

Yes I had that. I think I used a utility bill for address and as I said, resi permit for residency status.

Is it a case of UK Government checking up as to the country where Brits are living?

Well if you live here what's wrong with telling HMRC and DWP where you live?
