Not trying to be alarmist here, just confused! Just received email from a friend due to come through Larnaca on the 15th and tells me he has just read a story in the above paper that advises people not to travel via the South as they are stopping people coming North!
He is worried of course and has asked me if it is true. I have not been able to find any mention of this anywhere on the forum or in the local newspapers and ask if anyone out there knows anything about this at all?

To better understand this, it would be useful to have details of what the Cyprus Today had published. Without this, everyone is guessing.

Quite agree, awaiting email reply and will post as soon as I get it. I am not a reader of CT and have not been for years! I am hoping it is just a misunderstanding. Thanks.

I've had a quick look through the last 2 editions of CT on Pressreader and can't see anything relevant.

My sister in law and brother in law came over the border (near Famagusta) yesterday for the day. It took them 45 minutes to cross. They had a test and paperwork but guard just wanted passports.

Just got a reply!
“Hi, I read it on the on line issue as an attached story dated the 1st of March. Headline is Britons warned not to fly to South Cyprus. I will also check with my taxi guy who does regular airport runs. Might just be a scary story!”
That’s all I have so far.

Really don't think they can stop people crossing border, especially as they are a member of the EU. Also, if TRNC is an illegal state why are they (RoC) allowing their own people to cross over to TRNC???
It may be that the North Cyprus holiday adverts in UK as touched a nerve and they are trying to scare off holiday makers.

Seems a bit strange as the latest edition online is 26th Feb, next issue will be 5th March, unless they have released that early for subscribers.

The only thing I can think of now is that CT have put in a scare without thought as there are "some" reasons why British subjects "could" be refused entry to either the North or the South. However the Gov.UK site:
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advic ... s-covid-19 explains everything he would need to know and I will direct him to that.
I will also ask which YEAR of CT on the 1st of March he has been reading - lol.
Hope it all works out and that it is just a panic attack from my mate. Many thanks to all respondents.

With all due respect, are you sure your friend has read the right article because coincidentally on March 1st 2021 Cyprus Today, an article with heading Do Not Fly to South Cyprus appears…

Many thanks. I think you hit the nail square on the head there and he must have read the story from the 1st of March 2021!!!! What a pratt but I feel sorry for him as it is hard enough trying to get through the "must haves" to fly here in the first place and it must be very easy to be confused. He has not replied to my further question about if he is sure of the date so maybe he has gone into hiding till his red face gets back to normal - lol.
Again my many thanks for everyone's help in this effort.

Glad it was old news. There is so much confusion with all the rules and forms to fill in at the moment, it's easy to see why your friend got in a tizz.
Thanks for updating us Waddo.
