Thanks for the heads up Susiesusie. Not a spirits drinker, but I do need a bottle of vodka to make extract. I tend to go to Wines of the World in Catalkoy, find them very reasonable, but not been since the recent tax rise.

We have tried all the supermarkets, all the spirits have risen sharply, on Wednesday we bought a litre of scotch for 100 TL, went yesterday now 200 TL, before we went back to the UK for 10 days we bought a litre of scotch from Ledi, 89 TL, today 179, it can stay there for me.

Thought tax went from 5 percent to 25 percent. Therefore the tax aspect must be huge to increase by over 100 percent!+ On the price.
Think they are just charging whatever they want .

You are just lucky if you find a store selling the old stock at the old prices. They will all catch up as stock is replaced.

Its not just Alcohol . It is virtually everything. I am noticing literally daily rises, many shops now haven't even got prices displayed. I think it has reached the stage were they are taking the P--s. A 5 KG kg of Basmati Rice That was around 85/90 tl, today it has suddenly jumped to 300 tl.
I thought I would try the fairly new store just passed the Escape beach Island. Very expensive, But found a 15 KG bag of cat biscuits 311 tl not bad. When I took to the checkout . It came up at 487 tl. For some reason the checkout person seemed to think it was my fault when I told her to cancel it. Even after taking them and showing them the other 6 bags all on the same shelf.
So they can Foxtrot Oscar for anymore of my money.

Yes Johnny Lee I totally agree. Having just come back from Lunch, I'm wondering where all the poverty stricken and broke locals are, because the restaurants and cafes are heaving with families tucking in and enjoying themselves. I'm not taking about the two Merc families, just ordinary families out having a break at the start of Ramazan. Sadly the store you are referring to is Eleesay. It started out as being a reasonable and fair price structure, but have recently joined the "greedy brigade" and have lost my custom, despite it being my closest store.

It seems for many items their go to is what the price is in South then reduce by 5 to 10%.
I was in dubai recently, paid 20aed for 5kg basmati rice, equating to 80tl. Will have to look south for my rice i guess. Has to be basmati!

Not a great fan of rice, and would have agreed with you on basmati, but since living here, have found jasmine rice to be my favourite. I have no idea of current price though, a 500g bag lasts me a long time.
I do agree though on price rises on everything going up dramatically every time you shop. Although TL to the £ seems to be going down, there seems to be no correlation, always seems to be up on the up side with TL.
I just cannot believe the price rises in animal food and treats. A box of dog biscuit treats used to be just under 40 TL a couple of months ago, now 170 TL in one supermarket. Much against what I like to do, being a vegetarian, am having to cook dog food and make treats for my dog, as it is cheaper. Mr Pound used to be great value on dog treats. No more, it's very expensive for what little you get in a bag these days. Quite happy to share dog food and dog treat recipes if anyone wants them that my fussy wee toerag is very happy with.

alphamike, we seem to have same problem re dog biscuits and have taken advantage of the as yet cheap price of 5kg bags of pasta. A third the price of dog biscuits. Wouldn't mind recipe for dog treats. Its actually cheaper to give my four a half of a low fat McVities as their mid morning treat rather than their normal Pedigree treat. I've given them a good talking too and warned them they will be going on a strict diet before long!!

Have a care feeding your dog's pasta, do please check up and follow the guides. Although pasta is safe for dogs ONLY in moderation, I found that out myself by accident some years ago so please Google it and take note.
And, don't let them drink your beer either - it's too expensive (that keeps it back on line, kind of - lol).

Will do Waddo, I wasn't thinking of a 100% swap, more a case of a 50/50 to reduce the amount of biscuits consumed a day. Umm....on line.....we did discover at Christmas that one of ours is partial to a slurp of port!!
