Looking for a safe beach for a 1st time snorkel? Any suggestions welcome if you have been there this year. Prefer small and not too deep cove style? Thanks for all replies.

Thanks all! It is for my daughter (53) and I class her as 1st time. In my youth I snorkeled round the whole Island over a period of 3 weeks and rarely a week went by when I was not out in the sea in a 3 year period here, but she has only snorkeled in the sea twice before and that was 3 years ago. She is catching up again in the pool first again but I no longer snorkel at all! I have also noticed that the sea, bottom and currents have changed a lot in that time and as I will only watch from the beach I am concerned about her safety - rip tides are nasty out here - would prefer her to buddy up that is very difficult I know. I have over 30 years of experience and now old and worry more - lol. I think Shayna would be safest but don’t know where Golden Bay is so will find that and have a look as well. Again my thanks for your thoughts - Gates, you got it dead right!

Perhaps you could check out the beaches that received the thumbs down a couple of weeks back. Sorry can't remember which they were.

There was someone snorkelling at Diana beach yesterday. Looks to be fairly shallow for a way out. Also Karakum beach, there’s a small bay there.

Trying Shayna beach today after visiting other locations - seems safest and roped across - because she loses concentration about location and just floats off into the distance - lol. As injured myself today I have let her go off on her own but there are lots of people around. Got back home to find she has not taken her kit!!!! Will be real safe today then - lol. Kids!!!!

Our son took our granddaughter (10) out snorkeling at Kervan, out to the big rock and back. Also went Sardunya snorkeling staying near to the rocks, would recommend a buddy unless experienced!

Well remember the recent - lol. Also remember getting sunburnt in Gan - small island in Indian Ocean - but sadly, despite all warnings of cloud cover and UV index of 9+ she did her own thing! Always know better than old farts! Now no more attempts at snorkeling this trip as too much sun on skin yesterday will keep her out of it till holiday ends - hey ho, always next year!!
