There was also an article in Cyprus Mail recently said that "hundreds" of local families in the North were leaving from Larnaca as they saw no future for them or their children i.e. unstable unscrupulous politics, unstable finance etc, etc. I wondered at the time just how much truth there was in that article as well.

I wonder if they have looked at these airlines proposing to come here; with the EU/world sanctions on Russia, they have not been able to get parts for planes- even their own 'home made copies' all have foreign engines as they don't make them in Russia, such as often have RR, GEC et cetera, parts which may be unavailable.

More worrying, was the announcement (https://www.kibrisgazetesi.com/kibris/e ... 31439.html) of a 'New National Airline' Mavi Girne Airlines (Blue Kyrenia Airline) - this seems to be connected to a Russian Charter company called Azur Air.

If indeed it is, a quick look on the internet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azur_Air) would cause for concern, given its history and action for safety violations by the Russian Air Ministry, which means it must have been bad!

I guess as there is no due diligence by lawyers when buying property here, why would it be any different when setting up yet another national airline. Might consider moving out of the flight path to Ercan me thinks!

Direct flights will benefit the TRNC economy to a degree. Hey... gamblers could be further encouraged to visit, spend and lose!!
tourism would certainly benefit and hopefully the escalating costs of getting to TRNC may level off as airlines would pick up the demand. As the World continues upon a slide into isolationist self imperialism it will be the less scrupulous countries that may seek simply to rock the boat and if nothing more test international law and EU resolve to support the ROC.
It is highly unlikely that the UK will support UK direct flights. The UK will not want to rock the boat, has nothing to gain and given the sovereign bases in the ROC will want to keep sweet with that administration. I'm afraid a few thousand ex pats living in the North, plus some small pressures from UK TC's will not sway our PM particularly as peace prevails and may TC's are actually quite content with the status quo supported by Turkish monetary support.

If trnc want a proper model to get rich on a large scale they should learn from the city of London on how to launder the world's money including Russian oligarchs ..

Indeed, Global dirty and black money is quite the normal in the modern global economy. Cash is no longer King as administrations struggle to control corruption and crime relegated cash revenue . Crypto is another threat upon the legitimisation of trade and business .The intrackability combined with criminal intent is hard to combat. Banks fear the crypto revolution as their function and service is somewhat obsolete.

The UK majority hold upon financial services continues to be eroded as European financial centres attract trade and business. Todays collapse of the UK £ illustrates the exodus of UK investors. The UK administration under the new PM is taking a massive risk as it further burdens the already maxed out credit status.
Certainly the future is not at all clear given the war in Ukraine. Russians will be glad to be able to enter the TRNC. The Russia /Turkey relationship could indeed be pivotal in the near future. Turkey could really benefit from its central position and could secure a prominent economic position as an energy and trade broker. Everyone wants and needs peace in Europe but at what cost?

If only they would do the same for we UK bound passengers. Just like it was when we first came here. Stayed on the plane, passport guys came onboard, for about 10 mins and off they went. Sometimes we had the crazy situation of having to actually move seats whilst passengers took our earlier seats (at least in the winter we had warmed them up)
