The t.o m. Office is closed today so for that reason you cannot cross unless you walk. What a farce

That is correct. As it’s a public holiday in the ROC the office that issues the TOM will be closed.

I was also refused entry to the South on Wednesday

I have been crossing the border frequently since January for shopping etc (not using Larnaca airport)

As we know sometimes they check passports sometimes they just wave 👋 you through

On checking my passport at the Greek Cyp passport control they said I used my 90 days as I crossed in July and was refused entry

They said don’t come back till January !

Anyway just to let you know

Seems self destructive to me. Why couldn't they just waive the daily t.o.m whilst the booth is closed. . as it's a paper excercise only. Remember they used to give you a year.

They used to give you a year because they HAD to - we were in the EU then!

Now, we're not, and they can do what they like.

To understand the reasoning behind these policies, it helps to remember that we are regarded as 'Illegal Settlers on ROC Territory' by the administration in the South.

They try to do everything possible to discourage foreigners from settling in TRNC by any and every means that they can devise - and of course, they don't even RECOGNISE the TRNC as a legal entity...

Any loss of income suffered by shops, airlines or anyone else pales into insignificance compared to the political fight to dislodge the Turkish armed forces , & deny TRNC recognition - or at least to be seen to do so by their electorate...

Politicians in the South have been beating the drum to the tune of 'We will return you to your homes in Kyrenia' for so long that they dare not abandon the policy - it's the only policy that they've got! None of them want to be the one to go down in the History Books as the person who admitted defeat and recognised the TRNC.

That's why there will never be a settlement.

I’ve asked before but didn’t really get a reply (or I’ve forgotten it - yaşlı adam sendromu!)

Can EU passport holders (or EU driving licence holders) get the one year TOM? I don’t recollect being asked for a passport or driving licence when applying in pre-Brexit days.

EU passport, UK driving licence - 12 months TOM, subject to vehicle being registered in applicant’s name on the TRNC vehicle kocan; vehicle details accurately recorded on TRNC vehicle kocan; and vehicle not visibly displaying enhancements deemed not compliant with RoC motoring regulations.

Such as? you ask… film tinted front driver and passenger windows; high level spot lights; front mounted winch, and so on.
