If the paper gets any thinner there only be front and back page

Not even worth buying it for lighting the fire with anymore - lol.

Correct, I was in a queue at the supermarket and looked at the weather, noticed how thin it has become.

Stopped buying it years ago. Its a shame I used to look forward to it on a Saturday.

Its under new ownership now, so perhaps it will soon improve.

It was the new people they got that ruined it.

They only announced the new ownership a couple of weeks ago, on the first page. How long have the owned it?

Very sad too as only paper for foreigners as far as I am aware. WE need a paper that keeps us informed of all the law changes. They change so ofter and there is only the court site in Turkish to research any laws. It certainly needs new blood and flair and less of the same old, same old none news pumped every week!
Miss the horoscopes too as Cassandra Nye was quite good. Plus the crossword - hope that remains lol x

Very few people under the age of 40 read a paper and only a minority of those older get their news from newspapers. The main source for youngsters is the internet and it's TV for those older.

The cost of raw materials, printing & distribution is dead money (and environmentally destructive) and and Cyprus Today, along with most others, will be 100% digital within 5 years.

I have a Turkish speaking English friend who buys Kibris (sister paper to Cyprus Today) and its really funny cos you would think they would work in tandem but they don't. The only people who will really miss C.T. are those who like to be seen in their posh frocks from time to time, but I do think some of the charities will suffer as well as it gives them extra publicity if they can show how much they took in at the various bazaars and fundraisers. As a side remark, the coloured photographs are getting worse, absolutely dreadful usually.

I agree ,it has gone downhill. Renewed recently for the online paper for 6 months ,will not be renewing.

I agree re Cyprusscene and often check up on facts via Chris Elliott, he does a great job

With the cost of living as it is, it may be an option.

When i came here first time i did the same as visiting other destinations in the world look at the local rag. This then gives you a look at what goes on. It was great then 25 years ago. I really didn’t care how much it was. If it was a fiver or more. I keep all the old papers and give to my friends that visit they read and get some of the issues that been going on. Then they use it to light their fires. So when you work it out if it was £3 full like it used to be is it expensive. I for one would support instead of trying to get it for nothing. Buy it enjoy it. Loose it and have a moan. Long live the Cyprus Today

Local papers should help promote what’s on.

As l understand it Cyprus Today charge even the smallest charity bring-and-buy sale to promote their future events, so is lacking the volume of small ads one can see in UK local rags, who offer this kinda service for free.

A printed paper’s “news” is always stale news.

In the modern world of instant access to news outlets, be it Twitter, Facebook etc., or bona fide online current affairs / news sources, paper editions are the dinosaur, sadly.

Unless vanity publishing, which Cyprus Today may well be an example of.

The paper has been very helpful in promoting the work of Kuşkor, it will be missed.

I think it would be a sad affair if it was not there anymore because every week i have been here i bought it as an information that i could look at through the week buy the loo or go back to if i wanted to refer to an issue. I really think this paper should be supported. If not just for us but someone who enters the country and wishes to know the history the events . When I first came here there was not the technology we have now and it helped us visit places that we were not aware of. Also as not only a building we had an antique shop so we bought bits from around the world to encourage visitors to our shop lots of people i am shore if sorted would like this to go on.

Thank you. I stand corrected and apologise for misinformation. I am aware (was, more appropriately, as going back some years) this paper wished to charge charities for promoting their fund raising events, but was more than happy to give plenty of photo coverage of the event itself, double page spreads in some instances. I thought that a bit rich.

I questioned at the time why the event organisers had not used the paper to forward promote their charity fund raising events, only to be told it was too costly to advertise in the paper. We are not talking full, half or quarter page adverts, just a few lines of advertising, bit like What's On, as you mentioned.

It would be helpful to put the record straight if the paper were to clarify the current position wrt advertising and its print run, perhaps even an explanation as to why the page count per edition has reduced, an explanation as they see it.

What happened in the past is in the past and not relevant to today, it is not helpful to dwell too much on this. Surely it is the current lack of advertising accounting for the reduction in page count per edition. it's not as if the news has dried up is it?

Paper started to get more bulky a few months back when whole pages were taken up with photographs of local deceased and all their nearest and dearest.

You can get more information from kibkom now. Times have changed. The decline of the paper runs in parallel with the the decline of trnc sadly. Just a simple result of recession, covid & the idiot in Turkey.

I always wanted to humour them when orange juice in a thimble was a starter option. “I would but I’ll never manage a pudding.”

It appears to have gone the same way as local papers in the UK. No proper reporters anymore; they just 'cut and paste' from articles submitted by local groups etc. No investigative reporting or interesting 'opinion columnists'. Usually, the only page worth reading is the 'letters' section, and as distribution gets less and less, there are fewer letters because of the lack of good content. In NC, fear plays a part in so few letters being submitted, I suspect.

Hector, I think you've hit the bullseye there. Free speech a thing of the past, hence fewer letters unless they are glowing and in praise of something or someone.

And not even a paper to buy this Saturday.......not sure if they're having a break or given up completely.

I seem to remember that they always take a break over the Festive Season.
