There are quite a few articles about potential earthquakes in cyprus. I looked because quite a few of our Turkish friends have been telling us. It seems the recent one has heightened the risk but clearly a complicated if not exact science .

4 different articles with different seismologists saying similar things . The first three a bit vague . I have copied some of the fourth text :

" Greek Cypriot Seismologist Kiriakos Solomis warned that an earthquake with a magnitude not exceeding 6.5 could occur in Cyprus within 6 months after the earthquake in Turkey.

Fileleftheros newspaper wrote that seismology teachers Kostas Papazahos and Efthimios Lekkas also evaluated that the fault line passing through Cyprus would be affected due to the earthquake in Turkey.

The newspaper noted that Solomis stated that in the last 150 years there has been no earthquake with a magnitude exceeding 6.5 in Cyprus and that in a possible earthquake, the regions that will be most affected will be the Apostolos Andreas Monastery, Dipkarpaz, Famagusta, Paralimni and Larnaca"

Just to add most of us know that the Richter scale is a logarithmic one where each 1 number up is a magnitude of 10 times so the last article predicting maximum.6.5 would be an earthquake 10 times weaker then the recent one . Also the expert is saying maximum and if one comes it could be a lot less than that . I'm not here scaremongering I just wanted to find out for myself what these rumours where ..as you can imagine some of the locals based on these articles where now saying there was an earthquake coming today ....that's called Chinese whispers !
