Before I phone Turkcell to enquire about a problem with the service - Is there anyone in the Catalkoy area who has this Internet system experiencing a drop in Download Speeds between around 18:00 and 22:00 every night over the past few weeks?

It is quite a radical drop down from approx 20mb to as low as 1.2mb! The upload speeds remain at around 4.9mb as normal.

I am just wondering if it is between those times that Turkcell are doing work on their 4.5 upgrade equipment or is it just because some greedy git out there has opened up another Sports bar - lol.

All comments welcome.

What is the “it” that buffers every 4 seconds at a time?

We are also in Karşıyaka, with Lifecell Digital, 20Mb package.

No buffering with legit paid for services, eg Netflix. No buffering with UK TV services coming through Smart DNS Proxy.

We do get some buffering when using hookie services loaded as apps onto an IPTV box.

Video chat services, faultless, with Lifecell Digital. For us, at least.

I have Turkcell and live in Catalkoy and have not experienced a drop that much. Occasionally it goes to 10 but mostly is around 18.

Funny old thing - since I posted the question the speed has not dropped at all!! Who is watching me watching them watching us I wonder - lol. Am still pleased with the service and the product and just think it is a "One of those things" sort of thing regarding speeds. Groucho, I use the Ookla speed test all the time, I have noticed that the option to change server to KKTCELL Girne appears to have vanished as well - or am I dreaming that it used to be there????

When I click on whatever server it suggests, I then get a drop-down list of alternatives....

Groucho/Waddo - You are right, it was there once.
Apprently Ookla have taken to changing thier servers, so a slight registered drop in speed may be noticed depending on whom they are currently connected to.

I use the icon i the top right corner to check my history occasionally, but its been a while since KKTCELL girne has been on there.

KKTCELL is nearly always the default server on my system ....

Groucho, the same on mine BUT which KKTCELL? There used to be a choice of Nicosia or Girne as well! Now only Nicosia for KKTCELL. Wonder what happened to Girne??

In any event, testing speeds across a variety of "testers" will always produce different results, KKTCELL use Speedtest.net for their results!

The whole thing appears to be similar to HF communications - it is a black art - lol.
