Restaurant experience

Hello I this is my first posting on this new forum, I thought I would share my recent experience whilst we were at our villa over easter....
1. I Belli - New Italian restaurant in the old Turkish quarter of Girne. It is awesome - genuine Italian restaurant owned and run be a young Italian couple (he is the chef). The food is just amazing - you could be in a great restaurant in Amalfi, and you also get true Italian hospitality. I cannot recommend it enough - and as a tip, try the incredible chocolate pizza for dessert and the lemoncella (homemade with Cyprus lemons...).
2. Erolls in Ozankoy. Still a firm favourite and such great value. The big thing though is his sirloin steak. It is just awesome !!! I maintain it is probably the best sirloin steak in the world.
3. Rafters in Ozankoy. Abbas and the team always look after the customers so well and make you feel so very welcome. It is great Indian food - my particular favourite being the sizzling chicken tikka with vindaloo sauce on the side (Abbas also supplies a plate of yoghurt just in case) great night out and great value.
I know it is each to their own with restaurants, but I would not hesitate in recommending any of the above. North Cyprus is such a great place and we can't wait to be back - especially with the glorious spring we are enjoying in the uk now !!!!!!!

thanks for that Perry. i haven' t been to a couple of those for years, but have been to I belli as a guest of a friend. It would help me, though, to know what prices you paid . You recommend certain dishe,s but how much are they. I am married to a lovely man on a limited budget and he always looks at the right hand side of the menu first (the prices!), so if you could save me some embarrassment (my going in and finding we can't afford it), it would help to give some idea of cost.
Thanks.
and I would be interested in learning what other restaurants people recommend. For all the years of connection here, I am so aware that there are many restaurants I have never even tried.

I notice there are no " local Cypriot " restaurants on the list.
You should try Ikimiz in Girne. Run by Mother and daughter local cuisine and family atmosphere with reasonable prices. Food is fantastic.
had 2 evening meals there and went there for lunch couple of weeks ago. Brilliant. You would like it Marion.

Where exactly is it, Loose boots. i am always willing to give a try. And dare I confess that I love Cypriot food , not so keen on British or Italian (sooooooo fattening) but love loads of interesting salads, etc. so, come on where is it, and 'Emma Chissett' - that famous Australian lady ! Know her? (the Aussie way of saying 'How much is it?) goodnight. bedtime now.

Ikimiz without a doubt one of the very best traditional family owned and run Cypriot restaurants. Never had a bad meal on all the occasions we have been.

Hello Marion - on prices, Erols is trl32 for the sirloin. They give you starters and coffee with brandy as well, so very reasonable. Eyes is 5 or 6 trl and wine around 28. I-belli was a little more but we did have this geogeous fresh amberjack, so for 4 courses with wine, beer, and a load of lemoncello came to around 80 try each (but I don't mind paying for that type of quality). Rafters is always great value at around 40 each for the evening - again, a couple of courses, coffee, brandy, beer, wine etc. hope that helps.
Where is ikimiz ? We love Cypriot restaurants as well and will try it in June.

Very interested to see the comments on Erols.
It has been a long time favourite of ours with terrifically high standards of food and service from their first place in Ozankoy to the present site. We understood they had problems for a while and we had a couple of disappointing evenings there last year. Erol and Caroline reappeared and all was fine again but the service was not quite as wonderful as in the past.
Any recent reports? It is such a brilliant place we are crossing our fingers for the summer. Are Caroline and Erol still in charge? Heaven knows they deserve a happy retirement but we always felt they made the place.

hi Strandsfan, yes Caroline and Erol are back at the helm. And although we are not quite into the season yet, It seems to get quite busy there on some nights, especially wednesdays, just an observation, I live next door to the restaurant.

Ikimiz is excellent, but be aware, the main course is very filling, we had starters, delicious, but struggled to finish out main meal. All individually cooked, so expect to make a night of it. Lovely ladies, just like eating with the family - enjoy
