My wife and I are flying back to the UK on the 21st July.
Does anyone have any idea where I leave the hire car and where we check in ?

Can someone please clarify where the NEW Terminal is in relation to the existing CAR PARK and how far away it is from there?

When you sit in the current terminal and look through the windows you can clearly see the new terminal, it looks no more than half a mile away maybe not that. There is a new road sign just before the Police box when you enter the old airport, it directs you left, I am only guessing no more than 5/10 minutes to the new car park. Bear in mind the terminal may not open until next year!

After 31st July operations will discontinue at the old car park so if you are going for a while I'd get a taxi or a lift

"THERE WILL BE NO RETURN TO THE OLD ERCAN AIRPORT"
(PM) Üstel stated that there would be no return to the old Ercan Airport, saying, "From tomorrow onwards, all flights will be conducted from the New Ercan Airport."
Highlighting that a completely modern airport has been constructed, Üstel said, "We are very happy because our airport will be at a level to compete with contemporary airports worldwide."
Colour me very concerned at this statement for our future flights!!

Could be used for storing the building materials, machinery etc from the harbour rebuild?

Got to get their priorities right, facilitate more tourist numbers then keep them in the dark when they get here.

Kaner, the Turkish Cypriot company running the car park and duty free at the airport (both at the new terminal and the old one) yesterday issued the statement shown in the image below:
Kaner are saying that they are only liable for insurance claims on cars parked at the old terminal's car park until July 31st. Also for anyone returning to Ercan during the period up to the 31st, they are advised to call the number 0533 881 28 99 the day before their flight and a transfer will be arranged to take them from the new terminal to the old terminal's car park.

Update: Just dropped a friend off at the new terminal. No more than 5 minutes drive from the old terminal, very well signposted. He booked in and was through in no time about, 10 minutes to the cafe. All good except hardly anywhere open as you could understand. Most food outlets saying "opening soon" one small cafe.
Couldn't believe how many cars are still at the old terminal literally hundreds.

We arrived at the new terminal in the early hours of this morning, went to the ladies in baggage reclaim, no hand dryer or hand towels, met car hire company outside, they took us into an unlit entrance to the car park, we walked down some escalators that weren't working, in the dark, we used our phones torches, walking along avoiding cables all over the floor, car park only partially lit

It opened far to early, no where near ready apparently, no internet this morning.

Flew 21st July 9.10am to Istanbul for connecting flight LHR. Complete shambles, gate number changed 3 times with no help staff to ask what was happening, flight left 90 minutes late nearly missing connecting flight due to that flight held back by another connecting flight delay of 47 passengers which THY told me,'too expensive to cover costs'!!!

I was on that flight to Istanbul and can concur that it was an absolute shambles at this new terminal. Inadequate signing meant many people (including me) had left cars on the road outside the departures entrance. Inside there were no clear flight indications and conditions at the check in desks were confused; some had long lines waiting to check in and some were empty. The PA system is woeful. It is so muffled that it is impossible to make any words out either Turkish or English. In departures we failed to find anywhere to buy a coffee or a sandwich although the Duty Free was up and running ! The toilet I tried to access was closed and I had to use the disabled one. The signs for departure gates were misleading and there did not appear to be enough seating at our gate. The seat I used was already broken ! One leg had become detached from its floor mounting. We only realised that the gate was changing by observing people moving from ours to another !
All in all this was a pretty disappointing experience and I hope that there has been a considerable improvement when we come next in a couple of months time.

It would seem that IST - LHR flight is being delayed to allow for the TK 961 to disembark. Keep your eye on Flightradar 24.
