"Accident" and "fine"

Big car park Kyrenia reversing out of space, slowly, beeping normally, felt NOTHING but heard a smash. Put brakes on, still beeping, got out and found bloke picking his moped up off the floor.
He said I reversed into it. He was parked on a double yellow. There was a dent in one of the panels not consistent at all with falling onto the kurb which would have made a long dent not something that looked ike someone had punched it. Gave him car hire details. He said "just give me £50" I said no go to car hire company.
I maintain he saw me reversing and pushed his bike over to try and scam me for previous damage.
Later I got a call from Polis saying to go to the station which I did from Esentepe. Not even interestsd in taking a statement from me. Just said I might have to pay a fine of 3,600tl but not what for despite my asking.
The biker on the other hand might get a 600tl for parking on a double yellow.
Not a good impresion the Polis looking after their own.
Not heard anything since.

Yes sounds like a scam to me. Police should have taken a statement and clearly explained what the fine was for; without statements from both parties, sounds dodgy to me IMHO.
BTW way, saw on the Ercan thread you are leaving soon, did you pay the fine? You don't want any issue on exiting. Even if paid, take the receipt with you as double security!

Any accident where there is likely to be an insurance claim do not move the vehicles and call the polis. They will come.

The car hire company should have it in writing what to do in an accident. Never leave the scene (unless both parties are in agreement) Polis come out to every accident and you do not move the vehicles even if you are blocking the road until they arrive. Our insurance company as we are not fluent speakers have always said ring them too. The 3600tl is probably leaving the scene, what do the car hire company say?

No not paid anything. Polis not got back to me which they say they would if the insurance didn't sort it out. Car Hire company Hassan got back to me the next day and said only small thing nothing to worry about. Going to Kyrenia tomorrow so will call in then and double check with car hire company.

Well we live and learn i suppose and will do next time. Tbh i didn't think the biker would take it further. Car Hire company said it was my fault too as I drove away (after giving details etc) and that I should have called the Polis as "it says in the small print on the back of the Hire agreement" which actually it does not. Nothing about accidents at all.

Only that it is small and nothing to worry about but I'll check with them later today.

I did check next time I was there but no cameras where I was parked. The ANPR doesn't even work at the moment as twice we've been jn and asked what time we turned up, which on both occasions happened to be 59 minutes previously. Car Hire Co said all is sorted out though.

Is that a hard and fast rule that the police have to be involved in any accident?
