I've read that the harbour works in Girne will be completed on 20 October.
Does anyone know what year?

From photos I saw yesterday it is really coming on well so hopefully 2 or 3 weeks time looks likely.

Not a chance re a restaurant owner I spoke to.
Lamp posts not all up ,no railings stopping people falling on to the wooden walkways from path.Block paving not finished.

Any updates on this as we arrived last night and do like to drink and eat in the harbour. Best spot on the island imo.

It wasn't open 2 weeks ago when we were there. Take a wander down and if still not open you could eat and drink in Helim or Simit and blend in with the locals. We tend to find the menus at either are less touristy.

Went there on Tuesday, looks like another few weeks work at least. Spoke to some owners there who reckon a month!

Also read that no tables would be allowed beside the water.

How absurd. Won't be dining there in future.

Yeah, like restaurateurs worldwide have ever paid heed to rules about where tables can or can't be placed viz-a-vis the pavement!

The restaurant owners/managers are pushing back about that idea.
It's a Turkish thing and as Turkey are paying they want a say.

Having tables outside restaurants rather than how it was in Girne Harbour.
As the funds are from Turkey they want the tables the way they like it.

Happens all around the Mediterranean and throughout the rest of Europe...

What's the latest on the Harbour? Missed it when we visited in July and October last year. Hopefully all back up and running for our visit this July.

Walked around a few weeks ago, looked very smart but most of the resturants were gone, and the glass covering the old rail track was covered in dampness so couldn't see anything!

Thanks for the update. Hopefully the restaurants return for the summer. Loved sitting out at the Harbour Club in the middle of the harbour.

If you come I from the town end you walk past Tourist Info Centre and its in front of you to the right. Quite a large glass area but sadly we couldn't see much as it was all full of condensation, shame really!

According to Kibris Genç TV The train tracks in the harbour were laid down in 1897 to carry stones used in the construction of the port and for the restoration of the Cafer Ağa Mosque, which was originally built in the 1580's (taken from an article in LGN Lemon grove news)

Let's see, walking tax for treading on the pavement, Sunlight tax for absorbing Vitamin D while walking along the harbour wall, Oxygen tax for breathing in TRNC air, the list could go on

all backdated to 1974 of course!
