Speaking to my brother in Australia who headed the team that developed G3 decades ago informed me there is no such thing as a half a G, it is 3, 4, 5, etc. He thinks that some area's are 4G whilst other places are 5G and the company bunched all coverage together and came up with the mean for advertising/publicity purposes only to hoodwink customers to pay more!

What is 4.5G or 4G+?
It is another name for LTE-Advanced and as you probably guessed it’s a faster version of plain old 4G, but actually it does something pretty cool to achieve higher speeds. It uses something called carrier aggregation, which means it uses multiple bands within the 4G spectrum to increase its data speeds.
