We had a nice little conversation going earlier about posts on here. No arguemants (spelt wrong) sorry , no anger . So why has it been locked . At the end of the day if we cant talk on here what is the point of this forum . I know it has to be moderated but it was not getting out of hand or control .

I will let Soner (the boss) answer that one, |I think it was closed because it was seen as being off thread, as the original thread was announcing an event. You have a valid point that it was an interesting discussion, but 'off topic'. To put it back on topic, Ihave asked for clarification of when and how we moderators should move postings. I did not move yours, but I am a bit lazy and let the others do it.

Normally postings are left for a day or so on the general forum and then moved to a specific spot. It might be interesting to see what other KibKomers feel is a good time for postings to stay on the General forum before going to their appointed secton.

come on folks - share your thoughts. But of course it is up to Soner the Owner as to final decisions on rules and regs here. But he is a good listener as well as a good businessman.

Hi Marions nice to see that you agree that it should have been listed under events and not the main page. I think that is why my wife is complaining against a moderator of this forum. Let's see what Soner thinks.

Re moving postings I was surprised and a bit upset that one of mine had been moved after only a day or two. I was about Registration of Dogs , a subject which is of interest to many, and really should be to all since it is one of the potential actions against proliferation of strays. Whereas several other "doggy" posts that had been there far longer (including one advertising dogs for sale) remained on the main board.

I am particularly sorry because I mean to go back and report when I have completed the registration process myself, hopefully tomorrow.

I agree that Andrew should have locked the thread, as it was off topic, I think he should start a new thread and hopefully if there are any issues members will use the PM or contact me. I did explain all on the Locked thread.

It is very difficult to please everybody, in fact as you know, it is impossible. When I first started the forum I had members complaining that the general forum was being populated with posts that they had no interest in, this is why I had created all the different categories, so members can go directly to the category of their interest. The other option that members use is the direct links to Unread Posts and New Post links at the top of the page, members use these links so that they do not miss anything. The forum is used differently from person to person, do not assume that if your post is not in the General Forum then it will not be seen, this is not the case.

As mentioned on the locked Thread, the rule of thumb that I had agreed with my moderators is that anything posted on the General forum that is best placed in one of the other categories will be moved after 2 days, it should not really be posted there but as the forum is still new I had decided to allow it until things get totally out of hand and everybody is doing it. If a post has been moved earlier than 2 days, then just contact me and I will happily move it back, no problem.

do let us know how you get on rambling Rose. thanks all for the infol so far. It does seem that moving the posts to their ultimate destination can often seemunjust. Of course one can always have a 'sticky' but that means paying.

as to advertising, please odn't think I was suggesting that the restaurant should advertise. I think we all realise just how much many are struggling and literally cannot afford it. The same goes for advertising in newspapers and magazines at the moment. The money just isn't there.

It will be interesting to have soner's comments on all this when he has time - because Kibkom is his baby and he is trying so hard to make it a forum which works well and where the party is kept clean and happy.

one thing that has been over looked in all this is the multi posting for the same event, carolhm i 'merged' yours posts for that reason just how many times do we need new posts regarding the same event most people add to the post and bring it back to top which am sure you would agree is fair !

Yes Andrew of course I agree that it is fair to bring it to the top . But you didnt merge them all to the same place . Had it of stayed on here for 2 days or even 1 then I could of taken it back to the top like every one does . At the end of the day I admit that I dont go on all the different pages on the forum and probably miss a lot of info . But hay ho thats me and probably a lot of other people .

But dont forget its 20% off at Steveies thurday 31st Jan ( tommorow )

thats a joke

I think this has run its course now dont you ?

OK but if rules have to be made they should be applied equally. I was wondering what I had done wrong to have my post moved, since others remained.

One way of alleviating the waste of time would be to make titles more specific. For instance I always read posts, that say "Help, please" just in case I can. But half the time I cant and have wasted my time. It would be so much better if people indicated what the wanted help with and where, as often distance can be a factor as towhether one can render assistance

I obviously use the forum differently. I simply click on the " view active topics ".

Hey Bond, where did you get the badge. I want one. Sorry -

what I wanted to say is that I always just click on View new Posts. for me I could not care less that there are categories. i don't use them, but then I have not actually been searching for anything.

Another forum which I sometime use (nothing to do with Cyprus) had the problems that over enthusiastic mods kept closing threads for OT when the posters were really enjoying the discussion and thought the byways it generated were very useful. At the same time a couple of very witty posters kept adding jokes and stirring which was usually very funny and stimulating, but occasionally caused distress by hitting a sore point.

A decision was made to leave the decision to the OP. If he or she felt their topic was too serious or sensitive for distractions or jokes they simply marked it "OT only please", Otherwise within the other rules a reasonable degree of latititude was allowed. It worked brilliantly ! The OT only was rarely used but when it was it was respected, and other threads when people were free to develop related topics which naturally flowed from the first became really interesting Of course the Mods were still there to adjudicate,, and to take action if the OPs request was ignored. But their job was made easier and they were more respected because they had been democratic.

The same Board adopted a Policy of deleting offensive posts, rather than shutting down a whole thread because of one or two trouble makers. This mean that innocent posters could continue a discussion which interested them without loosing their train of thought , and probably other contributors, by started a new thread and topic.

PS Marion I will come back on the Registration saga. But where should I put it (oops , remember you are a Mod and be restrained!) I doubt many people read individual boards or press icons they may not understand. I think the time for more discipline is when we get too many posts on the MainBoard
