BEST SELLER BOOK STORE, Karakum will be hosting an AUTHOR SIGNING on Saturday 5th March between 2pm and 4pm.

The book is a historical novel
by Ozay Mehmet, an economist and Professor Emeritus born in Nicosia but now lives in Ottawa with his family.
The title is UZUN ALI, SHAME AND SALVATION and is a fascinating family story of Cyprus as it was at the end of the 19th century, a world of Zaptiehs (police), bandits, landlords and divided communities told as a story of family members in three generations over 130 years as they lived, loved and struggled in Ottoman, British and the War years, through decades of violence and the short lived independence in 1960. The bittersweet story of the Uzun Ali family unfolds in such diverse palces as Canda, England, Turkey, Uganda and Liberia but the glue that binds all is Cyprus.

Juswt been chatting with the author, and the penny dropped only today that I met him at the Gloobal Turkish Cypriot Conference the other week. He is an economist really and now retired is finding his artisitic side. Wonderful synopsis of the book was given to me. will put it in the paper on Friday (if I ever get power back so I can see what I am doing) but I really recommend you come along to the signing on Saturday. There is only a limited number of copies available, so make sure you get one.
should hit the best seller list - and there are more to come c overing the story of this family featured in the book, from the time of the Ottoman rule. See you there!
