Missing Construction Sites

Out of interest, has anyone noticed a sudden removal of New Construction Site billboards? For instance: Behind where I live they have been building 44-ish flats for the past 3 years, none of them appear finished yet but they have all been advertised for the past 3 years as "Bellapais Village" and many prospective buyers have been seen roaming around the site. Recently - since the new laws - those billboards have been removed and work on the site has ground to a halt!
Normally I ask the building workers or the site manager what is happening, but they have also appeared to have left, and apart from a house load of building workers that use the house as their accommodation, there is zero activity at all. Anyone else noticed this sort of lack of activity around??

Yup, same here. A development of 653,00gbp detached houses near ours has suddenly over the last two weeks become a ghost town. Although there are still a few flags flying, Until the announcement its been a hive of activity.

For years, the lack of any meaningful building controls has allowed outrageous overdevelopment to virtually 'rape' the countryside without any regard to the ecology, biodiversity and sustainability. Where did anyone imagine the necessary infrastructure was going to magically materialise from? Electricity, water, sewage, roads, schools, hospitals, police, emergency services... Builders selling on contract with no thoughts of paying taxes and issuing deeds.
At last the government appear to have woken from their slumbers.
A while back I set-up a Facebook group "Save the KKTC from reckless construction"

I mentioned this to one agent in passing and they said it may be because the construction companies in question were not 100% TC owned.

might also have something to do with the recent arrests of developers and lawyers by the south, and more recently issued an (international?) arrest warrant for a German national who was acting as an agent selling properties.
Probably gonna see more 'adverts' disappearing, given 'south president' has stated he is going after 'usurpers' if 'Greek property' see
https://cyprus-mail.com/2024/06/30/pres ... -property/
Same he doesn't go after those that 'usurpers' of TC properties in the south

We live in Catalkoy and the site that now seems to be deserted has a monster swimming pool which has been filled from the mains water supply - the hose connected to the mains is still there as proof! The new mayor has made much publicity telling everyone that if they find people filling pools from the mains supply they will be subject to the law!! Maybe he found out and that is why this site is now closed???? It also may be the reason we have not had mains water for the past 10 days - lol. Tempted to sneak out there with a bucket when its dark - lol.

I hope someone is looking after your monster pool? If not it's going to go a nasty shade of yucky green very quickly in this heat.

Firstly - it’s not my pool but I am keeping a watch on it just in case it turns into a mosquito farm! Secondly, new site boards have appeared so I guess money has exchanged hands and building will restart and with luck the site will be finished on the planned date of November 2023 after all! Lastly, got up at 05:23 to turn on my water, clear all the air out of the system and fill my tanks - failed! Water switched off again! Drove down into the village to find happy citizens washing their pavements and a river running past the muhtar office - burst pipe maybe - so situation normal with the water. How the packs of stray dogs get water is beyond me, maybe they all trek up to the Esentepe animal shelter for it because the is no shelter here! No complaints, just observations!
