Is the Cyprus Today a 'News' paper?

I may be in a very small minority, although it doesn't seem that likely after seeing and hearing so many 'Foreigners' such as ourselves at the recent TFR meeting on the subject of and affected by the new property laws of 21st May. There was a sense of injustice, anger, and bewilderment, to name but three.

I have scoured the Cyprus Today newspaper for the last three weeks, and yet there has been no mention of these major new property laws. Why not?

Because that would involve investivigative reporters being involved, but CT only print the information supplied to them and then selected by the Editor. At least that appears to be the case IMHO. The rest being endless pictures of car crashes and Fetes and Feast Days in various villages If you think about it that amounts to CYPRUS TODAY from their point of view..

Why don't you write to Cyprus Today and ask them - they're more likely to know than we are ;)

As very little about the new property regulations is truly understood by many of the lawyers and agents, it would not really be helpful for Cyprus Today to speculate and alarm their readership. When and as the true workings are known I expect full coverage.

That's exactly it Groucho, even the solicitors have different understandings of things, and rumour has it that things may change again.

The newspaper could at the least report on what the new laws state and what they are intended to do. Report there is considerable alarm and confusion as a result. Isn't that what newspapers are for? I think that 'speculation' and confusion is what is already causing alarm. It would be helpful if Cyprus Today could provide reassurance by asking Ministers the questions people would like answers to.

An excellent idea!

Why don't you suggest that to THEM?

Why? Perhaps because writing a letter which may be published with my name doesn't seem a good idea.

One reason why I stopped buying CT several years ago; became a mouth piece for a certain 'ex-MP' living here, who certainly didn't like anyone disagreeing with him LOL. Got fed up paying for pages and pages of photos of expats in restaurants - the same restaurants that advertise with them! A certain CT 'reporter/photographer' got right 'out of her pram' when our group asked her to remove the photos, she took without permission, in a certain curry house.

Never any news in it IMHO, just re-hashed stories from it's parent Turkish language paper KIBRIS.

What a cheek. Some of us find this forum very useful and on the whole pretty friendly. I've had a lot of help on here, and at times returned the favour.

Thanks Alphamike. The forum is still going well with over 800 new registered members in the last year. Covid had damaged my advertising revenue but I continue to throw money at the forum, currently upgrading the server to ensure all continues to run smoothly. Comments like that just makes me feel why do I bother, and just before England play in the Euro final.
Come on England!

I agree with Alpha Mike, this is a really useful forum. I too have found invaluable information on it. It's voluntary and free, what more could one ask? Suggest those who don't like it leave instead of making nasty and disheartening comments.

I'm just working my way through all the interesting posts. Has Cyprus Today published anything about the new property laws yet?

For those people on here who haven't said a good word in its favour, can I recommend you lash out a hard earned 30tl today. As today is the 50th anniversary of the intervention it is a really good read about the past, the present and the future and perhaps explains why a lot of foreigners moved here......... not just for cheap property. Please yourselves, but its worth it.

Do not know Gates. However if he is complaining about KibKom and living in the UK that's a bit rich one would say. However each to their own. As I said I think Hector was just having an off day.
